Question about SRX and its competition...

hey guys,

I recently bought my dream sled. 2002 srx 700. haven't had a chance to ride it much now that spring is here. I had a few short blasts on the lake(wow) but thats it. My buddy just purchased a 2001 polaris 700 xc sp. my srx is stock now but plan on buying reeds and a nice can for the upcoming winter. The polaris has some clutching done not exactly sure to what extent. I have read lots of different things and everybody has their opinion. I was just wondering if you guys could give me some feedback. Am i going to smoke his *** or what??? He thinks he is actually going to take me...I just dont see it happening. I haven't raced it yet but doesn't it take 800's for a walk?

Aftermarket reeds won,t gain a thing & the can will make u slower. Re-think your mods....hint....clutching.
 
Yep.

Leave the stock reeds in it. Yamaha reeds are very good as it is. Leave the stock silencer on. All it does is make noise and make you slower.

I have a good cluching combo for you that will work wonders and is very cheap to get. You already have half the parts in your sled.
 
Beekmansrx........welcome to the site. Listen to the two guys above you, they are both very knowledgable. I personnally run a set up by Turk in my sxr 700 and it runs excellent.
 
hey guys thanks a lot. I didnt realize i was about to make a foolish decision. that stock can is just massive and weighs a ton. but obviously it serves a purpose. I didnt want something that I need to wear earplugs on anyways. would it be a good idea to start with a roller secondary and go from there? thanks turk and tomseal im very interested in that clutching set up and would like to hear more from ya
 
Roller helix,s are a mixed bag. I used advant-edge but they ain,t around anymore. Just run a good nickel plated helix like a hauck or advant-edge. aluminum helix,s don,t slide on the plastic buttons as smoothly & wear the buttons quicker. Something close to a 52/44ish Hauck helix with stock weights will work well.
 
For absolute best acceleration
8200ish rpm climbing to 8500 rpm at flat balls out top end.
 
I wouldnt run the roller either. PM me for a good set-up that normally cost you several hundreds from a performance shop. YOu can get it for 20% of that price you would pay bender and guaranteed to work.
 
Personally i love my bender roller rooster, backshift is awesome and its set up perfect, pinned 8200 then it works its way up to 8500rpm. However couldnt tell you whats in it, it was the way it was when i bought it so figured i shoudlnt mess with a good thing.

Also cambridge where? Ontario?
 
ya cambridge ontario! ur from flamborough i see? awsome winter this year wouldnt ya say? anyone have a site or a place they would recomend to pick up these clutching parts? my sled jumps right to about 8400 8500 right away and stays there....but then again i havent held er wide open for more than about 6-7 seconds. but that was enough to give me a taste of the good life lol

I can't see that XC being able to compete speed wise since it is not a VES 700. those were valved in 02+, unless you got a LE 2001 xcsp700 that actually did have VES in 01. Not likely though. Even if it were, I don't think you would have an issue, those SRX's were fast machines.

The Best set up is to leave the motor alone and put all your efforts into suspension tuning. Depending on where you plan to run the sled, ex. Top lake speed or 660' drags or just trail performance you may want to try a gear change.Stay with a stock 47 Helix with the correct amount of twist for what you are doing. Stock (red) secondary spring, G-W-G primary with 8Bu-10 weights and 4.5g in the tip only. ALWAYS use the Yamaha 8DN-17641-00 belt.Keep your power valves clean and use synthetic oil only and premium fuel. Max. RPM should be 8500 at WOT. LEAVE THE STOCK MUFFLER ALONE. Check out You Tube and punch in Blue Crew Racing for proof how fast a stock motored SRX with a speed track and very trick lube system can run. :2strokes:

I gave away at least 124mph just now. You'll have to find the rest your self in suspension tuning. LOL
 
That's the first time I have seen that set up posted. I ran that a few years back in a ported 98 SRX with very good results. I had a little more in the tip, but it was excellent corner to corner.
 
89a-10,s with a 48/42 work well too.Backshift is a very lazy when u clutch em to be aggressive tho.
