Hi, I know I remember you as having the threads on the 02 srx with dcs light on, could you maybe shed some light to the member tomseal6 here as to your testing, and what you found to help remedy your stock engined srx. I know you have alot of information to shed on this subject. thanx

GEEZ, DON, WHISH YOU WOULD OF ASKED ME MY EXPIERIANCE. WHAT THE HELL, I,LL GIVE IT ANYWAYS. '' UPPED OCTANE '' rotflmao. !!! 3:16 (yammie tony)

My experience is that there are more factors than just jetting that affects the dcs. My sled is jetted with 151,3 and 150's, which is good for -18 c at my temps. I use 98 research octane, the label on the hood states at least 97 octane. Still the dcs activates.

But there are remedies.
1) Look at your clutching, is it lugging? If you're at stock gearing and running say a red secondary spring, the engine will lug once you hit soft snow beside the trail. So the morale is, don't let the engine tracktor at high speeds, tighten your secondary a bit.
The downside is less top speed.. I am going to gear down with my 1,25 track, it seems to be lugging the engine a bit plus it takes a long time to get to speed.

I've also experienced that two different clutch set ups, on the same day, in the same temps and on the same tank of gas, will be different. One will make it light like a christmas three, and the other will be more quiet. So generally, the more you load the engine, the more prone it is to light up.

2) Verify that your carbs are spotless
3) Verify that the YPVS work as they are supposed to
4) Octane boosters: The yamaha one worked the last time, but not this time.. Go figure
5) Use a water eliminator device in your tank if the dcs is coming on.
6) Don't fill directly from the pump, but through a funnel that separates water from gas.
7) Replace fuel filter, is it getting enough fuel at top end? (Going to do that soon)

When I have had all these things in place, the general safety margin has been 20 c. That means that I had to jet for 20 degrees more than the stock jetting chart suggests. A -18 jetting is just good to +2. Go figure. Our fuel can't be that bad?

I have replaced the piston rings, still comes on. I am going to replace the sensor soon.
My best run was 900 meters without the dcs going off, at - a couple of degrees celcius.

That's what I can think of right now. More to come, just ask

MY 2002 IS 100 % STOCK EXCEPT 8BU WEIGHTS, MAXX SRX- WHITE SPRING IN PRIMARY AND DEFFERENT HELIX. GEARING IS STOCK. I FINALLY STUDDED IT THIS YEAR BECAUSE I ALMOST ROLLED IT. 192 MEGA BITES. FARTHEST I HAVE HELD THIS SLED W/O IS 1 MILE. FUEL I USE IS 100 OCTANE. I HAVE USED CAM2 110 MIXED WITH PUMP PREM 50/50. NO DCS ISSUES AT ALL. GOOD POINT THOUGH MAKEING SHUE CARBS, POWERVALVES, etc ARE WORKING PROPERLY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I can't get 100 octane. Sure race gas would solve all problems, but this is supposed to work with pump gas. My experience and solutions are for pump gas, not race gas.

Race gas is so many octane points above the minimum that you probably could do pretty much everything with it, without the dcs going off. Race gas cost waaaaaay too much here to run it.

i definately believe the fuel issue to be a big part of MOST dcs problems here on the site... However, i completely agree with norwegian on the clutching issue.... It CAN set it off, i ran a test last year when mine was going off, went off with one setup, not with another.... If everything is stock then uping the jets to 01 specs and running good gas should do the trick, if this doesnt work throw some octane booster in your tank and run the test again, do it all on the same day, same conditions etc and this willl tell you whats setting your light off. This is what I did when I had problems with mine and now mine works great.... even after dons porting it doesnt go off... so thats just another myth as well that porting an 02 will set the dcs off, if it sets it off it isnt done right..... this is just my .02 cents guys but the fuel issue gets beat to death on here and it is most of the problem but dont overlook other things because of it.

Here is my 2 cents worth.Take it as you want. When I first got 02 SRX with stock clutching in it and stock jetting..the DCS was going off every time I would pin it from a stop or when I was getting up there in speed after a launch. This would really annoy(piss of off to say the least).I always use premium in all my sleds.Put up with it till season end last year around March 07.In the summer I rejetted it to 01 specs, use a water eliminator in the tank, also use sea foam regularly to.Carbs are kept clean. What do you know...the DCS stayed off.Now I experimented with Heelclickers and was really loading that engine...but the DCS stayed off.I tried all kinds of setups with them..no mater what..no DCS.Went back to stock clutching again and guess what...no DCS issues again.Various cluch set-ups actually DID NOT cause me to have a DCS issue at all.Now I usually punch that throttle to the bar all the time.I would literally do like 20-30 launches from a stop with the throttle pinned and no DCS again.I was getting a bog,but that is a cluching issue which I finally discovered.
With a well tuned clutch, that sled was flying.Would lift them skis all the way until I let off the gas.I was getting 110 mph with the bad clutch, imagine I would get to bury the needle if I had a chance to try it,but the season ended abruptly..could not do any more WOT runs.I would earlier hold the throttle down for 1-1.5 miles and no DCS.
SO FOR ME..clutching is not cause of DCS.It took me all season to finally realize my clutch is worn .Took the clutch from the SXR and that SRX was jumping them skis up to 3 feet in the air if I wanted it to.Again..even on a warm near 0 C. day...not a flash of the DCS.Can not wait for next season to finally get the SRX flying.DCS again is not my problem at all.I am going to rebuild the primary clutchs that I have with all new parts and get it to work like it should. No reason why I cannot bury the needle. Will have a chance to maybe set up with HC.s again on my spare clutch again to see what happens.Being my clutch was not up to parr, probably kept the HC.s from fully working.
MORAL OF THIS STORY:GOOD GAS, JET RIGHT...KEEPS THE DCS OFF ALL NIGHT.

Of the three 02 SRX's I have had, one of them gave me major fits with the DCS - it flashed from the day it was new - I ran several tanks of race fuel blend and went as far as running straight 110 race fuel to no avail - the sled had a slight over rev at take off and then under reved a bit on top - once I got the clutching spot on, the DCS quit flashing and all I ever run after that was premium pump gas - something that can't be over looked IMO, is the TPS - I know it adds timing and there is an adjustment on it somehow - I know a dealer that adjusted them to keep the DCS off - but if the timing is advancing to soon under load it would most definetly result in detonation - I don't have my sleds here at home or my repair manuals, but I believe on the left side of the engine is a dial that looks like what you would have on an electric choke adjustment on older carbs - that is what the dealer adjusted - whether it was a band aid or not I don't know - just my experience!! - my current 02 has only flashed the DCS a few times in over 2000 miles so it seems to be working the way it is suppose to - I guess I would be one that would argue that octane alone is not always the culprit with this system!! :dunno:

....What way should you try to adjust the TPS if you are suspecting?...

Not 100% sure - just had a dealer tell me that they had got them to stay off by adjusting it - not sure if it is just a band aid or actually has an effect - I would be surprised if someone argued that timing does not effect detonation - well, on here I guess I wouldn't!! LOL!!

timing for sure has an effect another thing that u can buy is fitch fuel treatment and u put that right in the feul tank and is good for more miles than u ever will ride in. our fuel today is not any thing that i can remember it being, the ocant ratings are not what they are selling. my 2 cents fitch fuel treatment has a web site check it out. Al

The reason the tps is not been brought up is because it only controls mid range cruise timing and by only a couple degrees, it has no effect on wide open throtle. Checked this on a dyno with stock, adjusted and everything as would be stock, unplugged sensor, sensor held in mid range independant of throttle, and sensor held to wide open independant of the throttle. Makes no differance what so ever, thats why when you call hauck he will tell you to just leave it plugged in the harness, removed from stock carb rack and run your aftermarket 38mm carbs.

So Don, is there an adjustment on it? - if so, is it possible that the advance could be coming in at the top end instead of in the midrange like it is suppose to?

Hey fellas i have been following this thread and was wondering , does the 01- and the 02- have the same cdi, port heights and compression ratio. Basically the same engine? and if so why other than the dcs would you have to run higher octane in the 02 , If the 01 dont blow up with 94 than why would the 02 . Just wondering ?

it won't blow up, the dcs will retard your timing and slow you down(less hp)
