Do not want to scare people or cause an uproar..but..with the price of oil predicted to go to $150 a barrel by 2010,gas at the pumps will be at about $10.00 a gallon regular.Not to far off is it.I think the economy will continue to take a hit as cost of goods will sky rocket and job loses will continue.Already in Ontario,Canada..the manufacturing sector is taking a hit and the Bank Of Canada announces that they are at the brink of recession already with job loses starting.And that we in Canada will be in a recession mode till about 2010.I see what is happening in the US and it will start here in Canada to.WHAT is the answer?
At the rate they are predicting gas prices,my truck will be costing me $1.00 for each kilometer I will drive.Ah!!! guess I'll have to park the truck and look for an alternative mode of transportation.Will the way we spend and do things change? Of course it will and being close to retirement I have to worry a lot.Myself..I see that I won't be spending $$ on any big ticket items.
I am really concerned and especially for the future my 2 daughters will have.In the US the new President to be elected will have their work cut out for them.Can't see big changes right out of the gate.The rich will continue to get richer as the middle class and the poor will continue to suffer.Kaos will evidently prevail..it has to.Now I have read many articles of what is to happen next and the US government will probably be the leader in this.With declining economy and declining revenues..the Government will have no choice to do what they have to do.Without really mentioning their agenda(maybe some of you have a clue about it)life will be different from what we know of it today.Will people except their policies,some will and some won't..that's another debate.
Can I at least say one thing.....0.W.G. and you take it from there.Do we let things just fall where they fall or do we fight back as a society.Don't know if we will be able to.It's the big picture.
This is my opinion only and I am sure you have your own to share.But again the life we know and live in will change.How do we prepare for it ?
If I am out of line here..just tell me..but I am sure the same things that effect me..effects you.Am I the only one a little concerned?I never thought when I was 12 years old that the world would have changed so drastically in my lifetime.Boy was I ever wrong.As changes happen more rapidly..how do our kids handle this,the next generation.
 
I agree..me to.With the lack of snow during riding season,seems to be a trend out here making it a shorter riding season and the price of fuel being higher...the purchase of new is not in my radar.At least I have 3 sleds and all will be in good working order and will do me just right.I really need to find a 4 cylinder truck for work ..this is more important to me and my wallet.Yet don't want to really spend any major $$ on this truck..cheap as possible and as long as it runs.Just need to carry my tools and pruduct to the jobsites.My Ford with the 351 in it is just a gas eater..especially in the winter.
 
I spend way more on gas, getting to the snow for the most part. I figure in the future, I'll stay up North longer, not just the weekend.

BLUEMONSTER: Fight back will be tuff....and probably not do much just get society more angry about things like politicians stealing more money than what they are stealing allready.....It will get worst and I think you are right about all you say...I know it I been there (in Argentina, and the goverment steals everything not just a little like in the U.S.) and that is one of the reason I move and trying to make a living in the U.S. but the U.S. is not what it used to be....

Honestly my opinion there is not much we can do....Just adjust to the situation and hold it....A friend told me not long ago that "America will be what it was before, there is no way around it is a capitalist country"...I don't know about that tought.

I admit that the economy is scarry now but that was one of the longest no nonsense rants I have ever read on this website. Of course peoples lives are going to change when gas is $10 a gallon. Lives have changed already and we're not even half way there yet!

Yamiman....I have heard that analogy before however it really means nothing to me since my family has probalby used over 2000 gallons of gas this year as opposed to 1 or 2 bottles on Nyquil!!!! Oh, and water....I only drink it from the tap baby!!!

Hey bluemonster how many boxes of tissues have you gone through over this whole gas price issue. I understand that its not far but just leave it alone, nothings going to change for a long while........GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!

The dude drives a ford pickup with a 351 probably has 2 tanks to just go 500 km !I would cry too!
 
I would really like to see electric commuter cars that would go like 200 miles between charges. Just basic point a to b transportation and make them cheap like $5000 new because the government reimbersed people for buying them. Save the toys for the weekends and save all that gas while sitting and idling during the week anyway.

geeez talk about a black cloud! no seriously ,when is our (canadian gov. ) going to to lift the heavy taxes on fuel????They need to start lifting taxes on us and start cutting back on there spending .Unless your in the natural resource side of business your going to be in trouble sooner or later

thanks bluewho for your comment,but it is true.My truck ain't very good on gas.I don't owe any money on it and it is in great shape..no rust or anything.But going from shop to jobsites does eat my fuel up.I really don't want to spend some $20,000 on another vehicle when this one is still running.
Remember one thing here in Canada.Our Gov. needs them taxes.We don't have a big enough population base where the taxes could be spread among more people.So we all pay more.And remember that if the price of oil keeps jumping,everything goes up.Our farming community now is suffering big time and a lot of farmers are calling it quits and finding jobs elsewhere.Where does that leave us for food supplies.The Hog industry alone here is basically going under.The beef industry has similar problems.Input costs are just to high and getting higher.I come from the farm and I understand what some of these farmers are feeling.I wouldn't do it anymore either,not worth the risks you have to take and still make below poverty wages.There are millions of hogs here now that have to be killed off and buried and the local government is helping in covering the costs.No more expansion in the Hog Industry,which a few years back was told by the Gov that farmers could expand and expect great returns.To costly to ship these hogs to the third world countries to feed people also.
My supervisor at work told me his brother-in-law who farmed years back got out of the business.Example:He sold a 1000 lb cow at auction and only got a $5.00 profit out of it.Does this make sense.Yet the price of beef in the stores didn't drop.Something fishy here.Once our farming community starts to drop..equipment sales drop,feed sales drop,fertilizer sales drop,small town car dealerships drop,population in small towns drop as the young move out to the city for work,people involved in the manufacturing and slaughter houses drop and it keeps going.Job loses follow from this.I have heard many a farmer discuss there problems on a local radio talk show and it is grim.They say going to the auction house to sell their product is like being at a funneral.
People got to eat but will pay for it for sure.There is no way the farming sector should really be suffering.They are supposed to feed the people,why do they have to be the ones to pay the price for trying to make a decent living.
Sure I am typing alot,could go on for days.I have talked to some other guys on this site who come from the rural areas,and they are telling me the same thing..look out....are we ever going to be paying high prices for food in the years ahead.My old man told me before he passed away that it was coming to this one day and city folk when starving will march to the farms and take the food from the farmers at whatever cost.He told me to prepare myself and I have .But if someone comes to my yard and starts to steal food from my garden..mr 303 is waiting for them.
Should I type somemore..I'll let some of you take over.I do my job,I go home..I pay the bills and try to live a normal life.But if you come to my house and try to steal from me..I have a surprise for you.This is reality and I don't see it getting better.Are hard times coming...yes sir.We all have to prepare for it the best we can.There is more evil in this world then ever before.This is all been written in the BIG BOOK and it is going it's course.

It's a shame those hogs could be used on Osama and his crew! :mrgreen: your starting to sound a little paranoid with the city folk trying to come and steal your food ! the 303 comment doesn't help gun owners anywhere in canada trying to keep their freedom to own them.
 
paranoid....now that is an understatement, Bluemonster you just learn to adapt.....I have a young family and I work in an industry that is greatly effected by the oil prices. Things change but life will go on. The government won't lower taxes on fuel it is all part of thier plan to meet environmental goals, they don't want your 351 gas hog on the road anymore. You could buy a new 4 cylinder truck and make the payments with the money you save at the pumps.
 
There is alot of things we can be bitter about and also alot of things we can be thankful for. How we all accept the things around us directs our path in life.
A positive attitude towards the situations around us will keep us moving forward. A negative attitude will only bring us spiralling downward. This is a very basic fundamental in life.
We can all look at our goverments and see all the bad they do but if we spend a little effort we can also see the good they do. I am not saying that I agree with all they do but I choose to make the best of it. We can all hate our elected officials but how we use this hatred for them is critical.We can use this to show them that we a better than them by finding better ways to live like a better means of transportation ( electirc cars, trucks that do 60 mpg, and so on) Or we can revolt and all get thown into a poverty stricken society or worse ,killed ( like other third world countries)
We as a society are all to blame for the price of goods that we purchase to a point. If we are willing to pay the price they are willing to sell it at that price. A good case in point is automotive prices in Canada. For all those years we were willing to pay 20-25 percent more than in the USA prices but now we are not willing to pay our Canadian dealers that higher price. We have now forced them to sell these same vehicles at a lower price by simply buying in the USA market and using the power of our stronger dollar.We have taken a negative ( higher priced vehicles) and have seen the positive ( stronger dollar) to change how we purchase vehicles and in turn have changed the ways of the "powers that be" price these vehicles. The change was slow but there was still a change. I still think new vehicles are waaayyy over priced tho.

We could go on and on and on and on on this topic of the future and what it holds for all of us and I think it would be a great read but in the end I will still fill up my gas guzzling truck to go to work and still take my family to hockey,dance, soccer,baseball,dinners,movies and so on. Why? Because I still can.
