Well had a little time,so uncovered the SRX,"What a Great Looking Sled" I must say.
Started to dismantel the chaincase and removed gears, chain and all that stuff. Was really easy this time around,no struggle to pull off the chaincase off the axles's.Noticed as I was pulling it off,the jackshaft came along with it.Had to tap it back until case was off. This tells me that the bearing setscrews were not holding on the jackshaft on the secondary side. That really ticks me off a bit. That was a new bearing out in last summer(07).Now what this did was wear away at the shaft and the bearing now wobbles on it.Bearing is still good, the set screws were loose.Anyways I got 2 used and in great condition..jackshaft's from HarnessRacer at the end of last season.Took that bearing and she is snug on both of the jackshafts I have here.SHOULD I re pack the bearing with grease anyways.
Anyways while I was taking everything apart,I keep track of all the pieces like collars or spacers that go behind the sprockets and the such.Got the rotor out and the key.But I noticed on the bottom of the belly pan a flat washer sitting there.I think it is from the jackshaft on the brake end.You know where the shaft has a c-clip as a stop and then the keyway for the rotor ahead of it.This washer must go up against the c-clip first, then the rotor slips on and up against it.AM I RIGHT?? Then everything else follows into place after that.
Looks like this jackshaft removal and re-install was no big deal. This time I'll have to use red lock tite on them set screws so that they won't release. You can only tighten them set screws so much anyways.Should I even coat the shaft with the red lock tite where the bearing sleds over. Will this also help the shaft from trying to spin loose from the set screws.I will assemble everything this weekend,so want to know a sure bullet proof way so that these set screws don't loosen and destroy my jackshaft again in only one season.THANKS.
GOT TO LUV THEM SRX"S.They sure look good for an older sled. Can't wait to pin it again!!!!!!!

I hear you, I uncovered mine too and just sat on it. They are one of the nicest sleds ever made. I too can't wait get on and ride!

!!!!!!!??????????

:)Hi Again.Anyone can answer to me about that one washer, does it go up against the c-clip on the shaft, then the key and then the brake rotor.I can't see the rotor rubbing up against the c-clip.
Yep the SRX,sweet looking sleds and sound great to and when you hit the throttle..it wakes you up.

daman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

where is daman when you need him.He is usually pretty fast with the answers. DAMAN!!!!!!!!where are you bud.
:rofl::rofl::rofl::dunno:

i dont know about the washer but i always use a small drill bit and drill a small hole for the tip of the set screw to sit into so it wont slip and loctite the threads and have never had a problem ..

good thinking there head.I solved the washer thing on my own, checked into the manual that I installed from the CD.It is #4 in the pic.

ill have to watch for that washer i have one of mine all apart now and i dont remember seeing that ill have to look in the morning .ya the set screw thing i learned from my high horse power go cart building days ..never had one slip since ...

rebuilding a clutch also, finished up the bearing project a few weeks ago.
1 more set of power valves to clean and adjust. PLus some polishing and making then all clean.... :letitsnow

clean..clean...clutch..clutch...clutch..again.agin and the again

:rofl:Been there, done that.Got 2 sets of PV's,so I just swap them when needed and clean when I have time, not clean on the spot in order to get things back in the same day. Also have all my clutches rebuilt with a spare Primary just in case or for a different setup on the go without down time.It is all about down time.I eliminate that with extra parts that I stock.

nearly!!!!

Well the 3 PV's from left to right I picked up from harness racer. They where mega dirty when I got them.I complained to him and he said if he had to clean them it would cost me more.So I vleaned them myself and it took a while. The fourth one in the pic is one of my other extra ones.I have 3 in the sled now and one in the cupboard which has pulled thru and I still am going to repair it.
After I finished cleaning the valves I gave them a coating of Graphite Lube.It forms a dry lubricant that does not collect dirt or grime.Should be easier to clean valves later to.

Yes it is a god idea to have the extra parts on hand, Still need to pick up a set of extra PV, I have 2 that have pulled thru, just havent fixed them yet.

Beats waiting for parts....

I sue some aluminum cleaner found at the RV place, spray it on full strength let it soak and scrub the hard areas with a brush, takes all grease and the dirt it the aluminum out,,, Looks almost new.

OR ( I take no responsibility for this) Use your dish washer with some good detergent, Break the clutch down pu it in and WALA,,, nice and clean.

you asked????

Hot soapy H20 does work I guess.I usually take brake cleaner and spray my parts, then compressed air.You can take emery cloth and roughen up the sheaves and also use green scrub pads to clean up the surfaces.:dunno::dunno:Each to their own I suppose. The quickest way is to pour gas all over your clutch and throw a lite match at it.That will clean everything off and you need a haircut after that for a few months also....LOL.....:rofl::rofl:

just getting my hands dirty and all cut up again!!!

And some swearing going on at the same time to...
I removed all my chaincase, gears, jackshaft and drive axle, front shock and w-arm.Drained all ant-freezeout,removed of course the pipes, manifolds, air box and carbs .
I replaced the bad jackshaft with the used one I got from harnessracer.Bearing is still good, just re-packed it with grease and drilled 2 small holes for the set-screws to grab something this time without spinning around the shaft and wearing it out.Re-packed drive shaft bearing also.Cleaned everything up in the chaincase and got all that back together today.Removed the w-arm and replaced with a re-inforced w-arm.When putting the front shock back, had major problem trying to get the lower shock bolt to go thru.It goes in thru one end,but angles towards the other end.Yamaha just didn't give enough room to wiggle the shock around to get bolt thru.I was just losing it here..it took like an hour to finally get that
#$%&* bolt thru.Had to release the w-arm off the rails, lay shock more flat to get bolt thru. Then had to pull down big time on the rails in order to flip front of shock over the top part of the w-arm,past where the grease zerk is.Then the top I got easy enough.
Put the primary on and used my clutch alignment tool to find out the clutches where off center to center. After putting the damn air box on,had to remove it again..then realized I had to remove the carbs to get to the rear engine mounts.Loosened the front mounts also and the engine torque limiter. At least now I got to take carbs apart and clean properly.Got the alignment done and tightened it all up again.
Got he PV's adjusted by feel thru exhaust port.Hope this way is accurate enough, since I have pipes and manifolds off..it was easy to do.
Talking about prevenative maintenanceWhen I got my pipes off,saw that one of the nuts was backing off on the front engine mount(clutch side)to frame. This would cause the engine to flex back a bit.Anyways I caught that. There are a ton of nuts and bolts that could back off or break during a full season of riding.Good to do a thorough inspection every off season.
SRX is nearly ready. Will put manifold, pipes back on.Add Amsoil Automatic Trans. fluid to chaincase,60/44 antifreeze mix to the system, tighten the track up to spec.Everything has been greased.
There has been some snow around us,but not here yet..but it is coming.Been raining here steady for 3 days coming.Imagine if that was all snow,we would have like 2-3 feet of it.
The river is nice and high this year with all the rain we have been getting. That will give us a lot more riding surface and any rocks or debris will be covered.I am hoping for a good season, hoping snow comes earlier then by xmas.Early November riding would be cool for a change.

well had a good day today, sort of anyways. There were a few more cus words thrown around today...but that is me.Got all my exhaust back together, but man to put on some of them exhaust springs can be a terrible experience. The words were just flying to put it mildly.Put oil in chaincase, antifreeze in the unit, secondary mounted and track re tightened.Took only 2 pulls and that beast was running.Of course added gas /oil mix thru plugs, but she sucked from the tank pretty quick, even though the carbs were dry.BUT...she was running way to fast at idle.I had the throttle cable way to tight for some reason.Re adjusted all that and motor just purrs. The new pull starter I installed is way better then the old one.The rope is way longer for a better pull. The old rope was way to short for some reason, blame the previous owner for that.I sure was tempted to take it out on the grass for a run,but I'll wait a bit.Everything is done, except that I have to change the odometer light bulb and I hood strap, which I have in the house.
So for now the pilots are 42.5,the jetting is 148.8,148.8,150.In the primary I have 4.5 g inner and 5.5 g outer, brand new stock SRX primary spring installed, along with a all re-built clutch. In the secondary I have a brand new Red Spring at 70 wrap for now.
I have fuel screws out at about 2 turns. Will play with that once I get riding.I have fuel screw adjusters on the carbs,so it is as simple as 1 2 3 to adjust.
Now I have all 3 of my sleds ready for the snow, should be here soon.I wanna put in a lot of riding time this coming season and enjoy.
