Hi,

I have a '99 Yamaha 600sx. I put a Hauck 760 Big Bore kit in it a couple years back. I have acquired a set of hauck husher triple pipes on it as well. I started off, (while it was stock), with a hauck #2 clutch kit, then they sent me a new helix and a spring for the big bore kit. Now that I have pipes, I need a hauck #4 clutch kit. If I purchase the #4 kit, I will have 3 oboslete helixes. How can I tell what angle they are to see if I can resue them, they are progressive cut helixes to possibly have one of them cut instead of buying yet another package. I was also considering trying a setup on my own, does anyone have any ideas? I was also thinking since i went from a bone stock 600, and am now running a piped 760...do you think i can gear a little taller without sacrificing low end snort? Any comments or ideas is greatly appreciated. (I'd also like to dyno the thing to get a bead on my shift RPM if I were to clutch it myself.)

Also, I know somebody that does their own "overdrive" tweak to get more shift out, has anyone done that with a yammie, and if so, what does a guy need to do to achieve that? His cat kills me every time we race, I'd like to make it closer. Thank you in advance!

I have a "J" (#2 clutch kit), and a "V" (Big Bore no pipes kit) so far, and also have a 45-39 from my '95 VMax 4, and then the stock 47 degree straight angle helix. Thanks!

Thanks! I am trying to figure out what lettered helix is on #4 kit they said I needed. How are you able to tell what the angles are? If I wanted to put in a custom setup, do you have any ideas? =)

I can let ya know what set up i am running......but I don't have the big bore kit in my sleds so it is probabally different. look up TURK and send him a private message concerning your application. Odds are he can help

Sure, if you don't mind. What are your thoughts on gearing. Do you think a guy with my setup could gear a tooth or so taller without giving up low end accelleration? By the way, how are you able to determine the ramp angles on those helixes? Is there a way to measure them??? I appreciate your help.

Measure them on a digital cad machine. I'm a CNC Machinist for a living so i have access to all the tools and machinery to make anything. I just made all new greaseable bushings for my front and rear suspension also.

Those pipes make power @8950-9100
I have 2 different set ups that I use
8ca weights w 2.4g in the tip, inner empty, stock spring, 47/41 helix with stock secondary @60-70 wrap

and

8df weights w 4.5g in both holes, stock springs, 51/43 helix @60 wrap

you could probably get away with running srx ratio gearing

Thanks for the information, are those setups (and your SX's) 600s or 700s or a both?

On the gearing, when you say SRX, would you be referring to a 600 or a 700? I think stock gearing varies by a couple teeth on the bottom gear.

Thanks again!

I called Hauck and he said to try the following setup:
1. Primary Spring: Y-G-Y (4700 RPM engagment)
2. Flyweight: Stock Weights. Currently I have a 4.5g (Inner) and a 5.5g (Outer) He said it may be pretty close when I put the pipes on bc it will create more RPM. Shift right now is 8300-8500, want to be shifting 8800-900 (like you indicated)
3. Run the 23-38 gearing so i can use the same chain (also like you indicated)
4. Run the hauck red secondary spring (Start with setting 9-2)
5. Use my Hauck "V" Helix (51-45)

How do you think it will run against a very well tuned F-7 across the lake?

Thanks Johnny and Turk, you guys were pretty much spot on.
