exactly, tear it apart and let us know the specs of things. it seems like he only started this thread, to let us know he's dissapointed (and to complain) in/about the sleds performance. he's putting no effort in my book, to try and work out the issues w/the sled. i understand that some of us may say "i'm going to sell the pos", from time to time, but we tried to solve/fix the problems ourselves and have succeded. he can do the same, if he puts his mind/effort to it.

Yes, but you guys aren't helping by bashing the guy, everyones a little scared the first time they have problems and think its "unfixable" but as i found out an srx is easy to work on if you have the right tools and a place to do it.

Beg to differ with making The best street bikes.... If theres one thing Honda is good at, its Rockets. com'n the 2008 cbr1000rr is makig 185hp WITHOUT power commander and a pipe. yamaha bikes are nice, but i don't like sitting on concrete when i sit on their R6's R1's.
all in all i'd have to say the big four a pretty close in quality with their bikes, but honda comes out on top for sure.
Now back on topic. sorry.

Just take it to a dealer who knows what he's doing and get the thing fixed.

it says in his classified ad that it "runs great!!" and that he had the dealer set the jets up in it.

Wow, you guys are brutal! I guess he got what he asked for but wow.
The best I advice I can give that Zachalyse already did, it may be time to get a dealer involved.
My '98 SRX is a beast. Even though the newer SRX's are supposed to be more powerful, this sled hauled the mail and I may never own a faster sled.
I kept a service manual on hand more or less to allow me to talk intelligently over the counter to the folks that did the real work. I am not a mechanical person at all.
When it had a powervalve fail, it did exactly what you were talking about. But that may have just been my experience. There are so many things that can cause the type of issue you had.
The guys on this forum allowed me to troubleshoot the problem enough to narrow down the issue to he powervalve cable breaking off at the servo. I took it apart enough to know which parts to buy on here and Ebay. I took that info and those used parts to my dealer who installed and tested it and it is perfect again. This was included very minimal troubleshooting on their part.
But when it gets to the point that you have to hold your hands up and beg for answers, just take it to the dealer. Once they take care of the issue and it has their blessing, then go sell it for the price you are asking (in great working condition)
Lesson learned. Definately don't bad mouth it in one forum, and then try to sell it in another forum on the same site. Anyone on a Yamaha forum knows the SRX 700 is a monster of a sled.
Good luck!

Thread crapping...? Is that a technical term chief?
Just had to pipe up and put my $0.02 in. Kinda missed out on all the drama, probably a good thing....
Keep up the good work
FWIW, I have to clean the carbs on an SRX and MM700 this weekend and both 'run great' sitting in the garage...but I know full well the carbs need to be cleaned because neither will run without half choke. This is the kind of thing that alot of sellers would write off, and the buyer would get burned. It happened to me when I bought my SRX, but I knew what to do and it wasn't a deal breaker. It's a ritual that needs to be done every year. If he's claiming it's fixed...it's in his best interest to give full disclosure if there is any chance of someone on this site buying it.
Simple as that. But, considering getting any info out of him was like finding hens teeth, I doubt that's gonna happen. Buyer beware.

I spent some time talking to the OP on the phone. It does run good until it gets in the fluffy stuff. So what I think is happening is he's got what to much clutch for what he's doing. We all know Pat Went wild with come of his helix grinds for the srx. I know is ha some belt deflection issues, But for the price, it's not a bad deal.
Boy 98700, I hope you're right.
The next guy that posts a negative in that ad will get a 3 day vacation. I have no way of proving one way or the other if this sled is fixed or a total pile, just like any other ad on here. The diligent buyer does his homework and asks for pics etc.....
If any of you have a problem with that, feel free to PM me.

I don't know if it's technical, but http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=thread crapping
