That is one way to do it, but if you only change the rear by +2, the speedo won't be off as far as the -1 in front. A rear sprocket is around 30-40 dollars. IME, regardless of bike, you don't need a speedo healer if you go +2 from stock in back.
But yes, dropping a tooth in the front, or adding teeth to the back will affect your speedo on any bike that takes it's speed from the output shaft.

Also, if your chain is stretched far enough, you will have to take a link or 2 out of it. If you have a riveted chain(and you should) that is a little extra work. Dropping a tooth in front also does 2 more things, it will drastically alter how the bike responds. Sometimes this method is a little shocking to some riders. Also, if you drop a tooth or teeth in front, the chain has more resitance to bend around a smaller circumference. More resistance= less hp to the tire. Running a 520 chain will help with the resistance of the chain versus a 530 chain, but then you need a front and rear sprocket, and a chain to get around that.

Eh, there are a lot of ways to get the job done. ;)!

I finally parked my bike in the corner of the garage instead of it taking up basically an entire parking spot in my 2 car garage. We had 7 inches or so at our house last night, and I wanted to get the jeep in the garage so I do not have to clean it off every AM. My bike riding for 08 is done as of 2 weeks ago.

On 04 and up R1's, going down 1 tooth in the front is like going up 3 in the back...so pick your poison. I did this and took 11% out of the speedometer via speedohealer. Checked speedo by cop at 65, 80 and 100 mph, dead on. Factory error was 4%. It now powerwheelies on demand...whiskey fist it and your in the weeds. Damn Im ready for another poker run.

The R6 will run right around 170 mph no doubt! My 99 R6 would read 172 on the digital speedo flat out but the best i ever saw on a radar gun was 168. Thats all BS aside!

But as far as a stock F2 doing 165 mph...no way! I`ve had 3 F3`s and they would not run that kind of top end ever. Before the law started really going after all the bikes we had a 2 mile rode across the mucks that we did radar runs on.

On every chain drive bike, going down 1 in the front is essentially equal to +3 in back.
I appreciate a good powerwheelie myself, which is why I ride a v twin superbike. Well the instant tq is a nice thing as well as the sound of a nice full yopsh twin pipe setup. :)

A stock 1st gen r6 won't hit a real 170mph, not unless it is built up pretty well.

I agree 100% on the v-twins. I like having the torque there more than i do the the high reving power ;)!
But as far as true speeds i will believe a radar gun over people`s opinion any day of the week.

My bike still revs to 10,500, so its not like an air cooled buell that revs only to 7k.

It took until the 06 r6 to get close to 170mph for a 600.

top speed before the gearing was 150's.

I'm all over the 2008 cbr1000rr next spring.

I`m very familar with your bike..had one myself as well as a RC51. What i meant was the twins have power at a much lower rpm where the 4cyl bikes dont get in the power till 8000 or better. ;)!
And yes i`m up on all the published speeds on bikes but just like sleds they are not all the same. Very rarely do you get a sled that is the same as what the mags say and that goes for bikes as well. Some are slower and some are faster. Not trying to argue with you by any means just know what i`ve experienced on radar guns.
I know i never saw 152 out of any on my F3`s...lmao.
And the best i ever ran in the 1/4 with my R6 was a 10.99@ 128 but i`m not a pro drag racer either.

Just waiting for snow so i can ride and passing time with this post. :winterrul

I hear ya about waiting to have the trails open and the lakes completely safe....

My bike is away in the corner of my garage, and the most fun I have now is in my jeep in the snow.


What year TLS did you have? I of course have liked RC51's but I am too tall for it to be a reasonably comfortable bike for anything more than a 20 minute trackday session.
 
Mine was actually a 2000 TLR and i liked the bike but had tranny problems a couple times with it. I really like the RC51 but i`m a smaller guy and it is still one of the most uncomfortable bikes i ever had. Still think the most fun bike i had was my 929. Wasnt the most powerful but had the most fun factor...lol. I`ve never been one to keep 1 bike too long though...seems there is always something i want more ....lmao.
My buddy has run drag bikes for years and done very well for himself. Cant get used to riding his lengthened bikes but damn do they go like heck in a straight line! He has had a few GSXR1000`s now and those things are rockets set up right.

I used to be a moderator/ site admin at TLPlanet.com for about 4 years before the owner sold it off to a different guy and handled everything on his own. I know quite a bit about these bikes, especially the tls and tlr. I am sure you are aware there are a lot of differences between a TLS and a TLR besides bodywork. Heck, the 97 TLS was a bit different than even the 98-01 TLS. I even have the original PCM for mine, complete with that crazy power delivery. Basically the 97 TLS was neutered in 98, and in 97 Suzuki fitted as many 97s with the redone PCM/ ECU to keep it from being called the "widowmaker". The original 97 TLS made more power than any other TLS or TLR, despite the R having a higher hp rating from Suzuki. I know I got a very strong TLS, because I have been told by a local Dynojet operator that he hasn't seen a TL S or R that has made more power than mine with basically att he time just a full set of yosh pipes and a BMC race filter. A typical full piped R makes 114-116 at the rear wheel. Since then I have done major airbox mods and that has been shown by other forum members to increase midrange by 12hp or so, and top end by 4-5 hp. But I have yet to get on the dyno since. My butt dyno can definitely feel the extra power from the enlarged airbox.

As nice of a bike the RC51 is/ was, we called it the "arsey 51" because it was a rack to ride. But the RC's suspension and chassis were superior to the TLR and S, with the motor being equal to the suzuki's as well.


I don't get the drag bike thing myself. I like the twisties and road courses. ;)!
 
Actually the reason i bought my TLR was after riding my buddies 97 TLS. I think i liked the S better than my R to be honest. Just didnt look as sporty though. Not that it really matters cause most of my bikes had pieced together bodywork before i was done anyways...lol. Only had 2 new bikes of my own and all the rest were slighty pre-enjoyed(crashed) bikes that i reapaired and rode em like i stole em. Enjoyed them more than the new ones i bought...lmao
