I think you just have to dig that key out of the shaft. By the way, the key is square and almost looks like tightly wound wire. Maybe if you get a bite and start pulling it will "unwind."

Can't you just loosen the set screws inside the tunnel and try to pull out the remains of the bearing? Is the drive shaft damaged?
