Since NO sled manufacture makes oil, & the big refineries make oil & label it for private parties I wouldn't be apprehensive about using it
Someone else makes the oil for them, but the sled companies most likely specify the formulation. They can also have a contract with the blending company not to allow their formulation of oil to be sold to anyone else. Do not assume that all the snowmobile oil that comes out of one oil companies plant is the same. They could make several different types of snowmobile oil for different customers. The cheap off-brand oils are also made by those companies - so any oil that comes from them is not necessarily good oil. Also, the oil blenders are not all big refineries.

Test Dummy
Odd brands like that always remind me of other products that are rejects that did'nt quite meet the specs(blemishes, etc.) and are not sold under the main label, but is still very functionable and is sold under another name at a cheaper price. Don't know anything about this oil, but I did read somewhere on this site where someone said that the stuff from walmart did not mix well with other oils. It was said that you really had to make sure to drain out as much as you can before switching to the walmart brand. Have you done a search on oil on this site? I'm no expert (thats for sure!) But there is alot of info, in some very knowledgable and passionate threads on this subject here. Soc

Stick with the Amzoil. I would not experiment with other oils just to svae a few bucks. How many gallons of oil do you use per season?...exactly. Stick with the known brands.

If you only go through a couple jugs I'd stick to the good stuff for the extra few bucks.

HEY P Z 1 ,, You and I need to talk.. WHERE IN THE WORLD DID you get YOUR INFORMATION FROM??????
DO YOU MEAN that YAMAHA specify's a LITTLE PACKAGE of MAGIC DUST to be installed on EVERY GALLON of YAMALUBE????? The sled companies USUALLY look for a jaso or api or sae or Tc-w- spec and WHEEL AND DEAL to try and get the BEST PRICE providing they buy X amount of gallons of oil in X amount of years of the contract....The sled companies BUY whats available in their MARKET... Remember,, they are buying MOTOR OIL,,, not piston rings or shock absorbers or MACHINED parts specifically for their application....PZ 1 said:Someone else makes the oil for them, but the sled companies most likely specify the formulation. My friend, Tom, passed away about 4 years ago,, so i cannot ask him about the dyes that are injected into the oil when it goes into packaging.. I'm sure,,, like PALE OIL ( a seafoam thread a week or so ago) there are 15 different "part numbers" and 15 different versions.. If you bought a gallon of YAMALUBE and it was the SAME COLOR as the gallon of WALMART oil or citgo oil,,, you'd probably be pissed off that you'd just spent DOUBLE the price for the SAME STUFF!!!! There are a half dozen different "qualifying" markets out there from jaso to api to sae to etc, etc, etc,, and I CANNOT and DO NOT keep up with them all.. the ' W " that I was speaking of in the equation 10-W-30 motor oil was for an example.. If the JASO spec or the TC spec says that "W" is for WATERCRAFT ,,, for THEIR APPLICATION,, they are correct... The SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS and also the AMERICAN PETROLEUM INSTITUTE refers to the "W" as for use in WINTER applications.. I'm SORRY if I confused you guys or gave you some OLD information.. I got out of school TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO and always got that question RIGHT on the "what does the "W" stand for in 10-W-30... Remember.. API services were SE when I got out of school!!!
PZ1.. Yamaha specify's API services SJ or JASO-3 or TC-W- 3 as the SPECIFICATION and the oil companies put together an OIL that MEETS or EXCEEDS the API services SPEC... The API or SAE or JASO GOVERNING BODY comes up with the specification for the oil and the oil companies either MEET OR BEAT that MINIMUM SPEC... PLEASE DONT QUOTE ME,,,but,, I THINK that there is STILL A LAW ON THE BOOKS that says : if a manufacturer tells you that you HAVE TO buy THEIR OIL (yamalube) and they SPECIFY that THEIR BRAND is the ONLY BRAND that you can use to NOT VIOLATE their warranty,,,, THEY HAVE TO PROVIDE all the oil you need to operate your vehicle FOR FREE!!!! Yes,,, YAMALUBE would be FOR FREE and YAMAHA would HAVE to send you GALLON AFTER GALLON (as much as you need for your sled) FOR ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!!! I haven't heard about the law being rescinded,,, but,, I do not keep up on TOO MANY laws ....
I see how you could have taken that out of context,,, MY BAD,,, I'm SORRY!!!PZ 1 said:......
