PZ1.. Yamaha specify's API services SJ or JASO-3 or TC-W- 3 as the SPECIFICATION and the oil companies put together an OIL that MEETS or EXCEEDS the API services SPEC... The API or SAE or JASO GOVERNING BODY comes up with the specification for the oil and the oil companies either MEET OR BEAT that MINIMUM SPEC... PLEASE DONT QUOTE ME,,,but,, I THINK that there is STILL A LAW ON THE BOOKS that says : if a manufacturer tells you that you HAVE TO buy THEIR OIL (yamalube) and they SPECIFY that THEIR BRAND is the ONLY BRAND that you can use to NOT VIOLATE their warranty,,,, THEY HAVE TO PROVIDE all the oil you need to operate your vehicle FOR FREE!!!! Yes,,, YAMALUBE would be FOR FREE and YAMAHA would HAVE to send you GALLON AFTER GALLON (as much as you need for your sled) FOR ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!!! I haven't heard about the law being rescinded,,, but,, I do not keep up on TOO MANY laws ....

Gary I think you are trying to refer to the Moss-Magnuson Warranty Act which states it is illegal for any manufacturer to require (in the United States) the exclusive use of their private label product to keep their warranty valid. If a manufacturer indicates only their private label brand will satisfy warranty requirements, they must do one of two things. Obtain written approval from the Federal Trade Commission that no other product except their brand will work (currently, no manufacturer has done so) or they must make the product available to you at no cost.

Not bad coming from one of those Amsoil Dealers that supposedly doesn't know their arse from an hole in the ground, HUH?

I suggest we try to not pick apart individuals and just stick to clearly stating the facts. Taking other peoples words and trying to use them out of context does not suffice. If you obtain knowledge on something of substance and have the proof or evidence to back it up, then by all means share it with the others to help everyone prosper (the way the sight was intended). Too many times people read someones verbiage and believe they are now experts on the subject. nosboy has demonstrated and explained his background in oils and provides us all with helpful/useful real-world information he has gained first hand. We don't need to pick apart another TY member because of the information they provide us with. I'm not saying that there are not other people who know their oils, but don't provide information that you don't know wholly yourself. Instead, try pointing that person in the right direction (i.e. - "You should read nosboy's write up on oil, it may answer some of your questions or concerns".) This is just my .02 on these types of situations that have been arising lately around the site; we don't need to be losing any more people who hold quite a bit of knowledge on our sport over word-wars...
