im thinkin the worn slides would effect it more at zero throttle so likely would have to open up your fuel screws more to make up for that because the fuel screw controls your constant fuel supply

you don't need to buy new sets of carbs. you should be able to buy just the slide from yamaha.....but don't. its much cheaper to just up the pilot jets/turn fuel screws out more. and yes, the more the slide wears, the more air will leak in, and the more fuel you will need to give it, to make up for the additional air. make sense?

what's the worst outcome if one puts in pilot jets that are to big..example 47.5's. It won't harm your gas mileage will it.These are just used to get bottom end running smooth until your past 1/4 throttle. To big would be bad then? Reason I am asking is that I just happen to have 47.5 pilots sitting here not being used.

Boy this is weird all the idle problems this year, plane and simple if your
experiencing this problem you adjust your fuel screws richer(out) you can
go to about 2 1/4 before you need to go to the next size up P/J then back
to stock specs with the screws,, and make sure your TEP is set and idle(1600)is set.
unless you have other issues like a air leak someplace else that should do the trick.

bluemonster, bigger pilots would sacrafice some fuel mileage...yes. the pilot jet flows fuel at all times and if you went larger to get rid of the hanging idle, then you will get a little less mileage. also, the worst thing to happen, is you go so rich, that you load it up on the bottom end. if the 47.5's get rid of the hanging idle issue, then great. the reason the pilot jet has the biggest effect at idle to 1/4 throttle, is because the passage is very small in diameter and at idle to 1/4 throttle, not much air comes thru the venturi, over the top of the pilot hole, but enough air to draw up the fuel thru the pilot circuit, needed for the low end...not enough air to pick up the fuel in the nozzles really. when the throttle slide opens up more, then there is more air flowing thru, to pick up fuel from the larger diameter nozzle and main jet. understand? kinda like when you drink soda thru those little mixed drink straws (pilot circuit), versus the bigger ones at McDonalds (main jets/nozzles).

mopar..all righty then..I may if anything look for 45 pilot jets.My sled was idling pretty good last weekend.I will see when it is colder out if that changes. For now I know is that if I pin the throttle from a standstill.motor will start building rpm's normally and then seems to lag a tad around 8000pm,if I let go throttle and pin again quickly..then it will roar. Now if I hold throttle to get engine to idle at 3000 rpm and then pin it..it roars all the way through like it should. Lifting the ski's and pulling like a frieght TRAIN. At any given rpm will cruising, throttle response is awesome and quick. So what does this suggest...that the pilot jets I have now doesn't supply enough fuel at the beginning when I pin it.If this is the case..then I will go up 1 size with pilots.Nothing like launching smoothly right thru and hanging on to the handlebars for dear life I'll tell you.
if its ok on a hot day and iddle higher on a cold day well ur lean a little

mod..I am not running with white plugs yet.Plugs are showing a nice cardboard brown equal all across all 3,if one was starting to look different,I would worry more. But sled jumps now and hauls. The best I have had in a while..so I will keep it that way..but I am always looking for 45 pilots to try.Anyone want to trade 47.5 pilots for 45 pilots.A simple trade.Stick them in an envelope and send them.

I have verified that my idle hang is at least in part due to 10% ethanol gas locally unavoidable in IL. I was in northern WI last weekend with a near empty tank of 93 octane IL ethanol gas. It ran as it had with the 4000 Idle hang. I filled up with WI non-ethanol 93 octane gas and immediately the Idle hang was gone. It stayed gone for the 4 tanks I used up there. It was 0 to 15 above and at home I still had a hang at 30 above. Since I ride both places I will need to jet up as decided earlier. I wonder how many others' issues are created by the ethanol like mine
