Hey all

Not kidding when I say extreme

The primary on the sx split literally in two and the recoil side of the motor is oblitorated, as in the alumunum part that covers the magneto and provides a surface for the recoil to mount to. From the edge, the case has about 3" deep of aluminum removed.

One minute before this happened, the owner of the sx hit a rock at a slow speed and bent the trailing arm and it now looks like the rock might have hit the primary too (unluky shot) and maybe cracked it. But I have no idea why the recoil side would be obliterated as well.

When it blew, it was already after 40 mins of riding and it was just starting to rev up to get up a hill, then the revs died totally and instantly.

Anyone have an idea of how this happened?

I will get pics soon, you will be shocked!

i had my clutch explode in about 20 peices somehow i missed a crack on my outer sheave. no clue why mag side would go like that.

you mean the rock probably ripped thru the underside and punctured thru and then hit the primary from the front and probably destroyed the crankshaft which did damage on the other end. Let us know..motor may be toast to.

700sx

I own a '97 700sx and had a simlar thing happen to my 700sx two winters ago. In my case, part of the upper aluminum casing that shrouds the stator broke right off for nno apparent reason (years of repeated stress I guess) and I had to find another used upper casing.

I am wondering whether this also happened in your case and piece of the upper casing somehow got into your primary and tore it to shreds rather than a rock.

Lots of parts and motors cheap for these sleds so it might not take big $$$ to fix.

Actually, its something close to that, and it goes like this. First, hit rock and bent trailing arm. Then stopped for 15mins and examined it, then took it out again only to have all that stuff happen.

The motor seemed to turn over just fine, but I guess the only real way to tell if the crank is messed is to run it.

No pics yet, but theyre coming.
