A GPS, flat smooth lake, some Yami's and Doos.

Hey all,
I was at the cottage this weekend in the Parry Sound, Ontario area.
After that thaw, the lake froze up smooth with a cm. of snow on top. Perfect for Top end speed runs.

I set up the GPS to record top speed, and each of us ran our sleds a few times over a 1.8km run.

Sleds that Ran and top speed over several runs:

2000-2002(not sure) SRX 700 with a can. - 181kms per hour (112.5mph)
7000 plus kms on machine, new to owner, said it was looked over by a dealership. Had a can on it... not sure if it helped or hindered.

My 2003 Stock Viper - 177kms/hr (110mph) My fastest time ever. Must be the conditions and the fact that I cleaned my PVs in the fall thanks to TY.com and all the people here! Very close to that SRX!!! My speedo was reading 193 in that run!

2005 Ski-Doo 800HO - 176kms/hr (109.4mph) I BEAT an 800HO!!! 2 years newer than my Viper.
2005 Ski-Doo 600HO - 158kms/hr (98.18mph) Several runs, that's all he could get.
2000 Ski-Doo Formula 500 145kms/hr (90.1mph) Sled frame a litle beat up after a crash, but engine is mint.

Just thought I'd post some real top end speeds. Once again, I'm extremely happy with the Viper's performance.

Nice run!! Well if your sled ran 110 mph GPS and said 193 kmh that means your speedo would be saying you were going 119.924 mph if it would have been reading MPH. That means your speed was about 91.75 % correct. That being said. I had mine in perfect conditions on Lake Gogebic the first year I owned it with the stock track. I saw 125 MPH on the speedo. If mine were the same in accuracy as your speedo that would equate to about 114.68 mph. I doubt ours are exactly off by the same amount though. I did have it pinched a few years ago across that same lake and on those given conditions I was seeing the speedo flutter between 107-109 mph and the GPS read 102 mph. That would equate to my speedo being about 93.55 % correct on that given run.

PS: I have probably been the one that says YOU LOSE performance THE MOST on this forum with an aftermarket Viper silencer. I know on one given instance when I tried a SLP silencer I experienced this: My top end was close to the same on the lake, but my ET (acceleration) was much worse. The other two I tried (MBRP and Bender) I only tried on accelration tests. Both were much worse but I never tried them for top end. I would not expect them to be any better considering I lost RPMs on the tach.

Hey journeyman, no doubt that you could have seen even faster speeds. I do what I can with my sled, but I'm no mechanic. I just really kept those PV's clean. Clutching is all stock. I'm sure there are guys out there that can tweak and tune to pump 110MPH plus out of their stock vipers.
My Viper has no aftermarket can, just the stock one... it was the SRX that had an aftermarket can, but not sure what and if it was helping his top end or hindering it.

I never did own an SRX (sometimes wish I would have). A few friends have owned them and I personally don't think if the SRX loses anything with a silencer, it is very much at all. The Viper seems very tempermental to pipe pressure.

Nice math!
I hit 117 ona hard packed road on my bone stock 04 Viper S and assumed I was really going around 108-110 but now I know. Although it didnt feel nowhere near as fast and quick as my SRX did, 108-110 on a stock Viper with a 1.25 ripsaw, long travel and a single pipe wasnt to shabby I guess. I should have never sold that 04 Viper S...

I have a 2003 Viper and I got a 108-109 (DM) the other day on a lake near where I live. I have a bender can on it and a hauck clutch kit. I'm going to do a couple of more runs next weekend with the stock can and a GPS and see what I can get. I also weigh near 240lbs so thats not helping.

IMO your weight isn't hurting you as much as that bender can is. who knows what tha hauck clutch kit consists of as well, that you're running.

where are you located? I was up in Parry Sound this weekend and we have a good 12 - 15 inches of snow on the lake... Its a little much for speed runs :)

I wanna hit the oastler lake radar runs this year for sure, do they do it every weekend?

I'm down by albany NY. The lake I was at was perfect for speed runs. A little on the short side at about a mile or so but perfect ice and snow. About 2-3 Inches of snow on the lake. So am I in the right ball park for top speed? I thought 108-110 (DM) was pretty good but idk.

When I first got my 02 new I used to see 118-120 mph regularily on the speedo.Never ran it on a gun until it had close to 12k miles.Just came home from a week trip in Northern Ont.(broke an exh. valve cable coming out of Timmons)and ran it on the gun that weekend.Did 106 mph on the gun and that was with dually carbids slowing it down as well.Bone stockand a hard life.I was pretty impressed.BTW the duallies made it quite a bit harder on fuel, but at least it didn't dart all over with them.

Never tried the GPS.Maybe when it hits 25,000 klm's just for fun.

I did this run last year guys... someone brought this post back to life.

I was up last weekend and the lakes are snowcovered, with slush on them. No top speed runs this year yet for me.

The radar runs in each area around Parry Sound are usually only one weekend a year.
A GPS let's you run any where and anytime.

It's fun to go to the events thought to see how you stack up against other sleds. Except for the SRX's and F7's, nothing else could top my Viper in the 700 class.

It's awesome spanking some of the 800's! :)

akrievins-PM me next time you plan on coming up this way. Me and Tofastsrx will meet up with you and do some runs. It will be a good time.

Im in on this too. Meet at the Jolly Roger? Good central location. Just need some trails to open now.

Ill be there this weekend, probably just fishing though. watch out lakers here I come!

Fellas, I'll let you all know when I'm heading up next.
That was on Sucker Lake... a small lake the flows into Lake Rosseau.
Jolly Roger is a good place to meet up!
That would be awesome!

Back when they were building that trail the brother inlaw and I rode a nice groomed trail right to the river on the other side, but there was no bridge yet.Had to turn around and go back, but it didn't hurt my feelings one bit.Awesome trail when it's groomed up nice. They sort of ruined parts of it by going around a few of the larger original hills.Used to be a sign by the Jolly Rodger saying "Trail is not recommended for inexperienced riders".

Thats exactly what I saw on my stock 2003 on my fastest run. 125 on DM and 114 GPS. I changed to a 1 1/2 ripsaw and get way better acceleration but I lost 10 mph on top.

I am now running a Cobra track so I won't see those speeds either anymore. I ran a 1.25 #9818 Camo Predator for the first 5000 miles of the sled (except for that first 500 miles of the stock track) and the best I saw on the DM was 117 with that track. With the Cobra I have seen 110 but have never had great conditions for doing a long WOT run. But boy does it hook up.

Yesterday I had fantastic conditions for my Viper being right in it's jetting sweetspot of around 8-10 deg. F. I put on 130 miles with some friends and man was this thing singing sweet music. My buddies 2007 Attak which also has a Cobra track and an Ulmer clutch kit could not shake me. On long pulls on the upper midrange I was slightly pulling him. Down low he had slightly more but I made it up real quickly. The worst thing about mine right now is shocks. I have had them redone every year and they don't last. I am going to take them elsewhere because I am not happy with where I am getting them rebuilt.
