Been running in a local ice series this winter in stock 700 and stock 800 against an army of "stock" F7's with a 2002 srx. Feels like bringing a knife to gun fight. No matter how good we get this srx to run still can't get around the better F7's. I just think the weight difference and the fact the EFI motor can run drag ECU's are to much to overcome. Might be time join 'em..... :o|

What is your setup? I'm sure there are people on here that would be willing to help you get there. Your srx makes 142 hp stock ..... that's no wimp for a 700!

I don't know about setup f7s but the two stockers I ride with I easily beat, an 04 and an 06 snopro, my 00 srx is stock other than my clutches are dialed in well, so as blue devil said the stockers can be beat, and in dramatic fashion

it can be done!!

suspension setup will play a big factor in this race imo..how far is the race? if it's only 660' your going to have a hard time beating them stock for stock.but it can be done..but the farther you race the better your chances are.

racing 660. chassis set up is good with minimal ski lift and excellent traction--278 chisels with speed track. running dragon flies in the front and heel-x in secondary. motor comes out at 8300 and build to 8500

I ride with 3 guys in our group that have 06 f7's, I love how they talk like their the fastest, when they are the one getting passed on the trail. IMO F7's are very cheap quality compared to the srx, arctic cat cut weight and sacraficed durability.

YOU GUYS MISSED HIS POST HERE. '' LOCAL ICE SERIES ''. NOT FLY,IN DOWN THE TRAIL. YA KNOW THIS IS ALMOST HOW THE COMPETITION FELT WHEN AROUND 2001 WHEN ICE AND GRASS DRAGS WERE A WALK IN THE PARK FOR THE SRX. DUDE, WELCOME TO MY WORLD. '' CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR ''. THERE IS NO SRX THAT CAN BEAT A ECU 500 F.T. RACE BOXED F-7 IN STOCK CONFIGURATION. FIRST THEIR LIGHTER AND SECOND THEY HAVE MORE HP. MATTER OF FACT A INPROVED SRX WOULD HAVE IT HANDS FULL. MY 2000 SRX IS SLAMED, CHISEDED, 9811 SPEED TRACK, ISR SPEC PORTED BLUEPRINT CLYS, CLUTCHED , GEARED etc I STILL NEED 1/2 SLED TO BEAT ECU RACE PREPED F-7,s. POSSIBLEY 120 POUND DRIVER MIGHT GET ME HOME, BUT IT WOULD HAVE TO BE PERFECT RUN. 3:16 (yammie tony)

i didnt miss the post.thats why i said the longer the run the better.but in my improved viper i used to beat them all the time in 500'' in imp 700 pro class.so a improver triple will ouy power a imp f7 in the short run but thats all that sled was good for.and cost a lot of money(theres alot of room in those triples to make power.but he was talking stock for stock so the only way your going to beat a stock f7 with a stock srx is in the long run.there quick but not fast

Amounst 3 other sleds,I raced my "Improved Sock" 99 SX700 from 1999 to 2007[Bender Tripples,Ported ,Boost Bottle, VForce Reeds,Light,Weight Parts, Gutted Airbox, transfer rods,Introvert drivers, lower gears, thunder shift clutch weights,1 1/14" track, strapped suspension ,40 years + of continuous racing,+ set up experience ect...]I raced against the F7's that ran in "stock" then moved up to"Improved Stock". I was never beat by any F7, but also was never beat by any 700 SRX in 660' or 1000'. The trouble with our Yamahas is the difficulty of "Hiding" any mods on the sled. I have raced Yamaha's for a very long time...its an uphill battle in stock, thats why I moved into Improved stock so I could unleash the potential these "Superior" sleds offer!!!
As we all know"Stock" is a relative term!!! JMO

Yeah, build quality don't mean squat in 660' .
Kind of strange that Cat set about to build a snowcross style sled with the 03 F series and ended up getting a dominate drag sled. I remember when thet first came out the regional governing drag association were making them strap weight on!!!!
Really tempted to start to "improve" the stock SRX but like 800vmax said it is hard to hide that kind of stuff----plus you feel like an *** when you get caught.
Maybe time to move on or move up

If you looked under the hood of a F7 with a race ECU, would you be able to tell? - buddy of ours says his F7 is "stock" like they all say, but it seems to run very strong for stock - we trade wins on snow, but on hard pack with two sleds that are studded, it is a handful and can't be beat with a stock SRX!!

i agree about the top end on the weekend we were out and came across some guys with some freindly radar runs. there was a f7 there that had pipes a bondocker set and more he only ran 97mph i pulled of the trail at tried and went 96 it pissed him off well it goes to show never brag about your sled .then we left

I am not sure but I think it changes the power curve of the motor by leaning out in the higher rpm range. I believe it raises peak rpm's also.

It must do all of that plus alter the timing curve as well. I know most cats seem to respond well to a timing advance key...they are a little tame in that department, probably to try to keep them alive during the waranty period.
