MM700 141 to 151 suggested gearing changes

I went with a rail ext and tunnel extension on my 1999 MM700 I put a 151"X2" Challenger with stock drivers.
What gearing changes should I consider from the stock gears.
It is a lightly modded sled with just a can, Vforce reeds and spacers and a comet 108 clutch. Stock secondary although I have a team clutch I am thinking of adding to the mix.
It seems great for boondocking and is fine on short hill climbs but when I get on a long climb the Rpms drop off and I have to turn out. It has a fresh top end so I know I'm not down on power.
Help please suggest what gears I should run based on the longer track?

for mountain riding you would want at least a 20/42 with 8 tooth drivers, i am running 18/42 and it is fabulous in the steep. the 42 bottom gear is huge and will help your track speed greatly. why the comet clutch?
 
i use to have 22/39 (1.99) gears in my MM 700 151'' but dident like it very much on the hills so i went 18/39 (2.44) and its alot better
 
How the heck cud u run 18/42..?

I'm running 19/39 as we speak, rode it on 19/40 a few weeks back.
Top speed bout, 115 km/h. (70mp/h)

Sure it's a MTN sled, but some speed u want as well.
To thread creater: My sugestion, run 18/40. Since u don't have pipes.

(sled: Bender pipes, V-force, Boost B, Billet head (20cc), Heelclicker clutch, Supertips, 8 tooth slippers, 151" 2" track)

OT: Second that with the Comet clutch.v
 
I probably would go with a p85 next time but I picked up the comet at the Oregon Snow Sports Expo a couple years back brand new in the box with weights and spring for $150.00
I also had 4 different sets of weights from a few arctic cat primary clutches that I could try for tuning. I ended up buying a small digital scale and I spent a couple of days tuning the clutch to my riding style. I am presently running 42.5 grams per weight and my RPMs run right around 8500 when I pin it. I am hoping to be able to maintain the r's a little higher for some of our hillclimb situations though. Thats why the request for suggested gearing set ups. Thanks for the input!
 
I also run 18/42 in my 99mm, It is ausome! I highly recomend this gearing, especally recomend this gearing if you ride at 7-10000 ft elevation. The gearing makes more use of the clutches, better upshift and backshift. I still hit 85 mph on my gps at 8500 ft elevation.

18/42 8 tooth drivers 42-18=2.3 2.3x11% = 2.5 gearing
my Viper turning @ 9000rpm with 2.43 gear = @ 83.6 with o/drive
somewhere I found a program to figure speed??? cant remember where but it might help some of these people

18/42 is the setup im tellin ya. if you are a trail burner its gonna be too low, but i can still run 70-75 and get there in a hurry. i dont need to go any faster. and like i said in my previous post TRACK SPEED IS HUGE. when you get into the super steep technical terrain instant track speed is what makes or breaks ya. to each their own but he asked for opinions and obviously im not the only one runnin that setup. i think a great setup for 0-3000 ft. would be in the 20-21/42 range. it all depends on what the sled is bein used for. i was runnin 23/42 at 1000 ft with the heel clicker setup and found that to be pretty darn fun and fairly fast. we would always drag race for short distances and i could usually pull most of the group and still was able to shift out. when at elevation obviously you cant pull that gearing..... :letitsnow

I run between 4500 and 8500 feet in elevation most of the time.

I think trails are only for getting to the places I ride and for the most part we ride 80%off trail when the snow depth allows. Brown Mountain in the Southern Oregon Cascades has miles and miles of lava flows and they are all ridable. Snow west did a story about our area in the first addition of snow west for the 2008 winter season. We have a lot of very unique and divers areas to ride.

i have a 2001 srx 700 with a 151x16x2.25 track and i run 19 42 gears with 8 tooth extros. it works great in the mountains 4000-7000 feet

I hate to jump in but while were on the subject of gears, what should mine be? I have a 944 MM with 9 tooth anti ratchets and a 159" track. I am having trouble with backshift, it might be a gearing issue?

What engine mods do you have to go with your gearing (18/42)? I am in the process of going to a 151. I have triple pipes and porting. I ride the snowies 8k-11k.
 
I would say 18/42 or maybe 19/42. My dad has a bender 800 in his MM and he's running 18/42 gearing and it runs 50+mph track speed in the deep stuff, mine runs around 45mph. He also has around 20 more horse than me too. We had backshift problems until we changed our helixes to a steeper angle. What helix angle are you running?
 
Likewise, I am running a stock helix in the stock secondary, If I can get the track speed up to spec with the gearing change I am going to run a team clutch that I have on the shelf. The team clutch was off a newer Viper so I will probably have to change the helix to compensate for a little less horsepower. I already checked to see if it had the correct spring.
 
My dad and i are currently running advant edge roller secondarys with a 43/39 helix, what is equal to 53/49 on other rollers. I previously had a non roller shockwave adjustable helix set at 50 degrees that worked way better than the stock helix, the steeper angle gave it a better upshift and a much better backshift in the deep stuff and my clutchs ran way cooler. When i went to the roller a gained 5 mph track speed and it has a lighting quick backshift. We ride at 8-11000 ft elevation
 
Gearing

I am currently using 9 tooth drivers with 19/42. Track is 159x2.25. A little motor work with pipes and clutching. At Cooke this year it was great. Never got to ride on any harder/ set-up snow conditions because it was all fresh when we were out. My brother is running same set-up but 151x2, he wants to gear up for more track speed, seemed to have power to do it. But make sure your clutching is right.

We run straight 51 helixs here but am trying out a 54/47 . not enough snow for a big pull yet and I'm at 18/39 gearig because of reverse
