There is a hose which comes off the SRX oil pump that is held by a bracket under the center carb. It is plugged with what looks like a bolt. What is the purpose of this piece of tubing and the bolt plug??

It is a bleed for the oil pump to remove any air in the line

Yes, Daman, that's it. From what everyone is saying it sounds a bleeder port for the oil pump. I'll need to use it since I am rebuilding the engine. Can someone please explain the oil pump bleeding process? Is it done while pull starting the engine or while the engine is running. I am going to start the fresh engine with a tank of premix gas. I'll watch the oil tanl level to be sure the pump is working by running the engine on premix. Thanks!!

Right that's the bleed hose ,crack that open wile running and let air out, running premix is good idea it's getting oil wile pump is priming up,do that and after a few mins pump will be good and primed up by the time that pre mix is used up.
