I got myself a 98 srx last year, I love the sled. I would like to know if there is a way of telling if it needs new rings, and if so should I re-hone the cylinders as well. Thanks.

cant say i agree, depends on how it was treated in those 4000 miles and since he didn't own it since new he really doesnt know. myself i rering every 4-5k anyway but i'm a hp junkie and want every last 1 available. rings are cheap and then you know, my .02you wont have to touch that motor for another 4000
Wrong....to keep it IN tip top shape peak performance and efficiency it's ready for new rings NOW, one doesn't notice the performance and efficiency loss over time because it so gradual rings are so easy and cheap to replace, you can bet you have blow by,will it keep running fine for many many more miles????? sure it will it's a yamaha but the reasons i stated above is why you should do it.tntmax said:you wont have to touch that motor for another 4000, just keep everything tip top shape....
