It was the no-action suspension that killed yamaha sales in my opinion, I gave up on them when my back went to hell. My main sled is now a '04 Rev MXZX 600SDI, there is no comarison to ride comfort on all the other brands are better, when comparing to the pro-action.
I must say after putting 60 miles of ditch riding on the '04 viper s, I just bought, they did the right thing putting position sensitive shocks on the skid, too bad polaris was doing it back in 1999... My back still was tired, but not sore like it would have been on my RX1 or the old '01 SXR 700. The newer upright seating position killed traditional sleds. I've got to admit, I'd like a yamaha motor in a rev chassis. Then it would run forever, handle great and not weigh a ton. Ski-doo really dropped the ball on the series 3 rotax motors by putting in sealed/greased crank bearings. There is no way to grease them and when they let a seal go or dry out, your screwed. I had somone actually recommend to repack the grease every 3 years to prevent blowing the crank....Nice design you stupid #^!#@^&... at Bombardier....Otherwise I love the Rev, no problems

2 Stroke's are light fun and responsive, 4 Strokes are heavy! The weight distribution is weird, i've ridden Nytro and Rx1 and they just feel funny, maybe once you get used to watching your buddies on 2 stroke mess around in fields, it's ok, but not for me.

Its all in how you look at it. The F7 is a fine machine they fly but it is because they are so light and made cheap. Yamaha's are way more durable i have seen many recoil's fixed on a cat. The srx would eat f7's for dinner if they had the same weight. But all in all lots of people by sleds for the ride yamaha has lacked in that department compared to other brands. But me i like to adjust and make faster not fix and repair! Give up my comfort and ride for speed and muscle any day. The srx will always be a collected muscle sled where will the rest be then!

I especially like the sounds affects.
At least he brought his lunch bucket. Looked like plenty of room for a couple samiches and a couple of Blues.

i like my 94 vmax a fair amount ,but i like my back even more, so now its a yamapoo!lol.the rear skid was killing me so went to a xc 800 skid and what a world of difference.now i can ride with my buddies on their new fat four stroke tubs with my only draw back being the fuel milage.last year due to circumstances beyond my control i rode 65 miles out of a remote area (granted on a groomed trail) in a snowstorm and the only thing i seen was a cougar of the pussy cat varity, lol!love the 2 stroke yammy motors but where their going to lose me is when i go to buy new .

Cats..
Suzuki engines, ILL PASS. Here is how it works with 4 wheelers Yammi/Honda then Kaw then Suzuki DEAD last. Ever work on a Cat, real nice they cant even afford clamps to hold carb to air boots on. CHEAP. Maybe they use them now on newer sleds IDK....
My only real gripe about YAMMIES is that they couldnt figure out how to give us greasable bearings, wtf kind of engineers we dealing with anyhow? Sounds like Ski-poo hired and few yammi defectors eh, greasable crank bearings, now thats called dropping acid.....

I think Suzuki makes good engines and most Cat 700's go just as long as the Yamaha 700's. Nice thing is there is only two cylinders to put pistons in. I agree on the air box and boot clamps. Whats up with that. When i got my Crossfire home i checked it over good and found sand in the air intake boot. Good thing there was oil in there to catch the sand and it did no damage. It wasn't from the throttle body boots though, the intake hose fits to a bung in the air box. That bung or whatever its called is loose with no clamp and allows crap to get in. Its an easy fix with some silicone. Another bad thing about the Cat is there is no air filter.

We own and ride Yamaha due to reliability and commonality of parts. If we were to change it would be a toss up between Polaris and Ski Doo. I like the looks of the Ski Doo Rev chassie. I really like the SXR and Viper. I plan on replacing or adding another guest sled, Phazer II may have to go. It will be a Yamaha though. Al

IMO...there is no comparison. The look and finish, not to mention reliability of the Yamaha sleds, are in a class all to their self. It's called QUALITY. You know it and your Rev pals know it...
They love to beat the weight issue to death...this is all they got. Period!
As far as the Yamaha Triples - I'm not going to part with my Viper...it's un-replaceable; never to be made again. Why would you ever part with these classic Yamaha muscle sleds??? Keep em' for yourself. When nobody can pry them from their owner's hands, people will take notice. Human nature; we all want what we can't have. Then once again...many will want one!

I've also seen cats with 8000 miles before a rebuild. I looked at a few Firecats with 12 and 14000 miles and they ran great. I rebuilt my Viper at 3500 miles and it was time judging by the blow-by on the pistons. Any two stroke no matter what brand should be done before 5000 miles in my opinion. No question the Yamaha is a better built sled, they just lack in certain areas as they all do. The motor in the Viper is far superior to the Cat motor but the ride and comfort of the cat is far superior to the viper. I would love to have the Viper motor and clutch in my Crossfire. I took an 07 REV for a ride and lasted 10 minutes before i gave it back to the owner. Terrible ride, darted all over, very uncomfotable, had no power. It was the worst sled i ever rode. If all Ski-Doo's are like that i don't understand why anyone would want one. Pure garbage!!staggs65 said:tell that to the 3 f7 guys i ride with, they've all rebuilt with under 4000 miles
