I think it's called designed obsolescense. If the skid had bearings (greaseable ones) they'd last forever, and could you imagine how nice they'd ride...and you wouldn't buy a new sled....
Ski-Doo I think did the same thing with their crank bearings, who is going to tear apart the crankcase to repack bearings??? Not me, it's easier to let it seize, then replace them....So people tend to trade them in before they grenade...if they are lucky. Why couldn't they just keep them oiled by the injection oil, then they'd have a decent motor...wait, I forgot, they don't want you to be able to keep it forever,,, without spending money on repairs.

Actually investigate prices and you may be surprised.......

i guess i should clarify: i consider a rering on a 2 stroke pm, not a rebuild. i re-ring every 4-5k too. i was talking full blown rebuilds from the crank up, one included a new primary too because that grenaded as well, and maybe that was the cause on that one but that doesn't make it any better, i'm sure there are cats out there that run a long time, but the ones i ride with first hand havent, even the zr800 i ride with needs pistons before i need oil but thats probably due to him not searching for the source of the prob,I rebuilt my Viper at 3500 miles and it was time judging by the blow-by on the pistons. Any two stroke no matter what brand should be done before 5000 miles in my opinion.

Probably 'cause he can't see from all the rattleing going on in his brain.
I rode a bud's ZR800 once for about 20 minutes. Could not find a happy rpm and my hands started to tingle like they were falling asleep. Always thought it was just him (he's been known to do some pretty silly things) but after riding his sled, I suggested he go back to a ZRT.
As much as he hated to say it, even he commented on how smooth my triple tuned triple was.

Side bar: Buddy buys new doo every two years. Latest is the 600 E-Tek. Has had nothing but problems. His words were..."F
G DAWG! Bought his wife a new Doo 500SS...says it has more balls.
What's that? The latest and greatest is not what its all cracked up to be?

I guess the reason I keep buying Yamaha is I'm happy with them and I don't know anything different. I've yet to ride a rider forward sled from any manufacturer so I have no idea what they ride like ( I've sat on quite a few though lol). Been on Yamaha since my '85 Phazer and every one has been reliable and put together with better stuff than the other three brands of there eras. Yeah they say my brand has always had the worst ride but I have been happy with them all and they seemed like a good ride to me. Hell I think my Viper rides pretty good, but thats relative to what I'm used to in the past. Would love to be able to put some miles on some new sleds from all 4 brands and just see how much "better" the other 3 ride.

the reason
The reason I own an SRX Yamaha is because of it's sexy lines, lots of power and ripping threw the trail corner to corner rides like it's on rails...
Once you drive one your hooked..lol
