Hey guys, just wondering what I should expect for top speed on a 2001 SRX700.
Compression is at 125 PSI across, I also just changed the jack shaft and drive shaft bearings, cleaned the carbs and power valves, installed new slides and rear wheels, and an almost new 1" track.
I had it out on Sunday for the first ride (I just bought the sled in Nov). Best I could do was 168 kms, but the snow is still loose on the lake, and traction was not great at all times. I am hoping for some hard pack next time out.
Also wondering how to use the smileys?
Have a good one, Mark.

What are rpm,s & clutch temps at the end of your run. also suspension settings can add an easy 5mph.

Could you please elaborate on the suspension settings for top speed?
I had it out again today with the same results -168kms was the best I could do. I don't really want to stud the track, so anybody have any suggestions on how to squeeze some more top end out??
I don't really need to go any faster, but these sleds are supposed to be rockets and mine seems like it should have more.
Probably should check out the clutches a little more closely but I don't know that much about them, and also don't have any clutch tools.
Any help would be appreciated!

about 105mph...

ive only got to 170-175ish with mine so far... though its clutched and set up for trails... it was still picking up... but dont think i will see anything more then 180ish

though it gets there REAL damn quick...

SRX700 Not fast enough

Anybody have any suggestions????
The motor runs good, sounds good, and pulls hard, but then seems to fall off.
I am going to hit the lake again tomorrow and record the RPM's on the top end but I think it was hitting 8500 RPM.
I would really like some suspension tips.
Come on guys, I know this thing should have more. Anyone have some clutching tips, basics?
One of the main reasons I bought this sled was for the top speed claims, and also because it is a Yamaha.

i have a custom cut helix i got from a guy at work it has 80 thou shave out of the center to open the secondair more and it has been cut at a steep angle. im running that with stock clutching and a silver secondairy raped at 90 degres with 192 sutds and after market transfer rods and i plaied with the suspention and gaint about 3 mph buy tighting the limiter straps all the way soffened it up for decreace the aprotch angle and run the track as lose as i can and i run about 200 kmh on the dreamomiter and 190 on the gps and 189 on the gun. with the right clutch set up and some test time u can make them realy fast i still have some work to do.

Does an excessively loose track truley improve top speed in comparison to a track thats per the Yamaha spec? I agree that a tight track robs speed but I read that a balooning loose track is no good for top speed. I guess is a loose track vs. a adjusted to the mean of the spec prooven or is it assumed?

Setting up track tension as per, BETHEVIPER.......

Keep loosening track(a turn or 2 at a time I believe) until it starts to ratchet on hard acceleration, tighten adjusters 2 turns..........

Then do some high speed runs.....keep tightening track until you notice some loss in top-end and back the adjusters off a bit.

SRX Not fast enough

So I went back out to the lake today to check RPM's.
When you nail it from a start it hit's 8500 and pulls good.
Wide open usually get 8500-8700 RPM. Still barely hitting 170 km/h.
Our lake's here are rough as *&!?.
Also took a look at the clutches but did not find much out, hard to tell anything without taking apart. I'll have to take a better look on my next set of days off.
I'll update next week, thanks, cheers!

This would suggest that the looser the better. I also used this method to determine what the sag should be as measured without any weight. Now I adjust to that point and then a bit tighter due to slight stud contact of the rear HX.

if the engine sounds good and pulls hard down low but top end is suffering check for a power valve problem.. My bet is u have a pull through..

100 mph on a rough lake isnt all that bad IMO.

How far up to the top of the primary is the belt going and also are there any black rings on the primary on the top 1/3 of the sheaves. Either your not shifting out or slipping. Again, most SRX top speed stories are not on cow pasture like conditions. Boats can go faster in a light chop and against a slight headwind to get air under the hull and lift out of the water but stock trail sleds with the suspension stroking and crashing up and down at 100+ mph are not going to put out their best speeds...
