Top speed?

105 on my lake was about right when geared stock. How big is your windshield and are you heavy (no insult intended) as these factor in at high speeds. Also check your belt. High speeds are very hard on belts.

I am about 185 lbs. I tried with my spare belt the other day, which looked to be in better shape, ran the same but squeels like crazy. I am going to take a better look at the clutches, and maybe try a new belt. There is no black marks on the clutches, but I would like to check allignment.
Also interested in suspension settings.
Thanks, guys.

I have an 01 SRX and only hit around 105 mph on the GPS on lake runs, but there is always snow so that slows you down quite a bit.
When people are saying 115 - 120 mph is that at a track on glare ice?

yesterday
plowed track , some snow on it ,not the fastest day or track 2000ft. on a radar gun actually 2 of them

srx 2001 116 mph trail ported
srx 2001 114mph stocker

all kind s of other ones there xcr 800 mach z 800 etc.. nothing scored better than those 2
there were a 2 other sleds there that would have beaten that but the fellas were just testing shorter distances

Yep, lake/river can be different then hard ground.

Me and the wife where out ice fishing with my folks this weekend. Cold -15 C but sunny. Out of the blue my father removes his car's portable GPS from his pocket. I said to him "You know what we could do with it?" He said "Me first!" So I reset the max speed on his GPS and he puts it back into his pocket. Jumps on his 06 RS Venture to do a couple of passes on the river. Then it was my turn and then my cousin's husband came over with his 06 Apex... Here are the results.

RS Venture 86mph
00 SRX 101mph
06 Apex 99mph

Me on my father's RS Venture also did 86mph despite being allot lighter. 180lbs vs 250lbs.

Conditions weren't perfect with couple of inches of loose snow on smooth ice. None of our sleds are studded and are all stock. We stayed in previous older sleds tracks but you could feel the sled skis pushing the snow and sometimes the track spinning.

I am very happy that my sled can keep up with the newer Apex. This tells me I must be doing something right with it's maintenance since she is running good.

SRX top speed

Hey guys, I went for a rip today, after loosening my track some. We just got some fresh snow so the sled ran a little slow today.
I was out near an iceroad so I decided to give it a try for top speed. I had to let off at 160 km/h because I was running out of room and too much vehicle traffic, but it still seemed to have a fair bit left . It was sure nice to be able to see the speedometer clearly at 160 km/h instead of bouncing around on the lakes.
I can't wait to try the iceroad again.
I would like to get a small GPS to check the top speed. Anyone have any suggestions on which one would work best on a sled?

Phatboy, WOW! those are great numbers, that really is crazy. One thing that i really ponder on is how did a Apex, "GT or not" loose 2 a SRX 700. I understand that it is very light compared 2 the Apex and has crazy hp 4 stock but im still learning alot bout the insides of sleds and wat not. The updated technology of sleds theses days must mean something. Also sense the SRX is a rocket, wouldn't u think they would still b makin them today and tryin 2 update them with watever technology they have?

I was really impressed of my SRX that day. The fact that it keeps up with the Apex is testimony to the SRX legend.

Yamaha decided to go all 4 stroke instead of supporting 2 technologies. This saves money in the short and long run. Due to emission standards I believe all sleds will have to go 4 strokes.

Now to stay somewhat on topic. With the monoshock suspension which still keeps the sled low compared to a monoshock in the Apex (no mufflers to clear in the SRX's tunnel). My front engine is lower to the ground. I can tell you it still rides trails like a go kart. Went for a long ride the other day with him. He knows the trails by heart and for me it was my first time in that area. He's considered the fastest rider of his group and I had no problem keeping up with him.

I understand man, there must b ups & downs with ur sled aswell. I favor the 2 strokes very much but nothin we can do 2 change there mind sad 2 say. Kinda am thinkin bout how i should have got a SRX instead of the Viper. Even tho out of every sled i had and rode the Viper seemed 2 fit me. I just thought it was the fastest 700-696cc in its class stock but guess i was worng. Not sure but i think my sled has 120-122hp, urs must have like 140. Its just insane 4 stock. On a groomed lake any idea wat the top speed of my stock Viper can hit? Stock SRX must have a good top speed itself. Mind u its has 144 stud and its the red e/r, i weight bout 200lbs and the sled itself ways 518lbs. Sorry if this post is long and forgive me if i spelled something worng, im learning disabled. Thank you man, really happy i joined this site.

kinda off topic but untill i bought an srx i was told they only had top end... mine has great bottom and has great top end. since i first saw the 2002 srx i wanted one! im 17 now but when the 02 came out i was 9 i believe. that exact sled has always been my favorite and i got one in 2008. i have a fx nytro aswell and the nytro is the only thing quicker unless the conditions are PRIME then the srx is rite beside the nytro, then pulls away around 100 mph. to get back to how quick the srx is, i beat an 800r 3/5 which i think is great!

to add to that my nytro has 144 studs, K&N filters, excell header, skinz super-q silencer, and ulmer racing stage 2 clutch kit. sled is FAST
