Hey guys... i know this isnt a yamaha but I feel I could get enough info from you guys anyways...
He is redoing the top end on his 2000 800 triple melenium touring (which is the same motor as the machz)
His sled had easly around 15,000 km's (cant check exact since you need to start it) I got some pics is this just normal wear and tear or is there something that looks like it isnt running right? last year everything was running great... tore the top end because of a head gasket leaking coolent and decided to do the whole top end.
Here are the pics... top end was never touched until now... normal??
But 2 of 3 cylinders are scuffed along with the pistons you can feel the scuffs but there is still SOME cross hatches seen on certain spots... crank is all good no play in it... that we found so far... sound normal to you guys with a triple pushing 15,000 km's+?

Haha... yea... it could of been worse... it could of been a artic cat... my top choices are prob yamaha and skidoo to say the truth... and ive got 2 buddies with mxz 600's with 10,000km's + one poped last winter with 11,000 but needed a crank and everything... the other is prob same milage but still runing... and after seeing my old mans sled... it doesnt seem bad at all minus the top end
It looks fairly normal, just replace all piston, wrist pin, wrist pin brgs, and rings. Run a slight hone on the cyls, or have the cyls honed and checked for proper bore. US Chrome can hone, check bore and supply all parts needed for repair. Reasonable cost also. Keep em running, and send them the bill. lol Al

How much would sending them in cost? would we still use oem pistons?
went to the website.... it costs 245 per cylinder for the "exchange"
or 185 for a honing and replate... or 215 for a bore and replate for oem... how much more would new ones be and where would I find a place that would sell... im looking around and cant seem to find anything about cylinders for sale exept ebay... must be some companies that sell some...

Yeah It would be better to keep them in Canada, for quick return. Gerry is a great guy and be able to hone them or what ever else you need.

everything looks normal for those miles. get a top end rebuild kit, hone it out and run full synthetic oil in it.
