I have a 2001 SRX. I pirated another thread and didn't get my skid to where I liked it. http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?p=440530&posted=1#post440530
The rear of the track is still sticking up in the air maybe one inch on the flat garage floor.
If I sit on the sled the way I normally did, I can pull the skis up real easy. I have to wonder if the early model Bender transfer rods are causing my grief. (I can not get a reply from Bender). The gap with me sitting on the sled are maybe an eighth inch on the bottom with all the rest on top. I sucked up my limiter straps so that 1.5 inches of rod are above the bracket. I also question the logic of having no preload on a short travel suspension like the SRX. The local "Up North" Yamaha dealer said that I need to preload the center shock to raise the center of the sled and set the skis and rear of the track back in line.
I move the FRA to the in between setting from the stiff setting and it seemed to help some. I have watched the Pro-Action tuning video twice now and have a hard time fathoming how my set up can be so hosed.
The wife and I drove the sled 50 miles the other day. She didn't seem to mind the ride, but I felt like I was being thrashed compared to my 07 Attak.
Is the anyone that will be in the Mountain/Lakewood area Thursday or Friday that would be willing to take a look at the sled? Mt wife talked me into not bringing it home again.

ya bender is the worst for getting replies man..if you need anything from them...you have to call..i tried a number of times and never heard anything.
Are they mounted in the proper hole for rod length? The 98-99 rods are longer than 00-02....

They are mounted in the front hole and were the same length as the stock transfer rods.

No matter what you do, you're not going to get the same ride as your 07 Attack.
Did you try your dealers recommendation?

Not yet. I want to get a consensus before I just start changing things farther. I am already 3mm shorter on the strap than the recommended max setting. I know I can never expect even close to the same ride as the attak, but I need some control.
Something is preventing me from getting any lower gap on the transfer rod without bouncing on it. If I sit back on the seat I can hang the skis with no effort at all. Neat, but not right.

I am almost ready to pull my skid out and put in a 2002 SRX take off that I bought last Spring, but I don't have the time and ambition to pull the skid out for the third time this year. The center and rear shocks were rebuilt and revalved by Pioneer Performance this Spring. I have an e-mail out to Bruce asking him if I need a different preload on those shocks.
You havent said what you are trying to accomplish. What problems are you having when riding it? Freshly rebuilt shocks may affect the set-in a little because of the fresh nitrogen charge. If your biggest concern is getting the gap correct, you are going to have to soften the shock springs.
How much do you weigh? Are the shock springs stock?
Where are your ski shock springs set? Soft, hard?

Just read some of your other thread. You mentioned your rear shock is at 2 3/4. Where are you measuring from, the manual says no less then 3 1/2(soft) to 4 1/4(stiff).
Front skid shock should be 3 3/8 to 4 1/8ish.
Both measured from the center of the mounting bolt to the spring seat.
I would go to soft on both shocks and FRA and go up from there.
Looking at the picture on the trailer, something is put together wrong! There is no way the rear should be that far of the ground, even if you unhooked the limiter straps. Especially with a little weight on it. Looks as if the front shock isnt even compressing. I would try putting a 4x4 under the front of the skid and see if it will compress the front shock, it should with just a little pressure on the rear bumper.

I can not get more than 1/8" lower gap. The measurements I made were thread length to the lock nuts on the shocks. I watched the Pro-Action tuning video again and conclude something has to be messed up with the Bender Racing transfer rods. Can the transfer rods be removed without dropping the whole skid? I had a hard time swapping them on the bench.....
I weigh over 270# without riding clothes. I am 70 miles from the sled right now, but will be able to remeasure properly on Thursday when I have off.

I measured the spare new takeoff skid that I had and found the setting on the rear shock to be over 1.25" less preload. I took the same amount of preload off the sled and that was it! How could it have been so hosed up last year? I never would have guessed that too much rear shock preload would keep the rear of the track off the ground. I am guessing that before I got it someone added a bunch of preload to compensate for a toasted shock.
I backed off the limiter strap to 1", tightened up the front shock to the point where I could turn it with the sled on the ground, turned the Bender transfer rods out two more turns to give me the same overall gap as my stock rods, and verified the track tension before test driving it.
The thing drove better than it ever did!!! Very nice ski pressure with excellent turning....just like it was on rails! The front end never lifted off the snow either. Felt like a new sled! Thanks for listening to my rants. I may record the setting if I think about it next time I go up.

What were your preload measurements, front and rear. I am having the same problem with mine and the shocks were just rebuilt by Pioneer performance. Glad you got it figured out. If you could let me know those measurements that would be excelent!
