SRX down HELP!

Was riding in a feild and all sudden the sled slowed down to a stop. The sled runs but when i give it throttle all it does is Rev. The clutch is still spinning and the belt is still in tact. I then discovered that i can take the secondary with my hands and spin it in either direction with the belt on. What happened? Im thinking the chain or a gear snapped in the chain case. The sled wont move just revs up. Whats your opinion? I either spun a bearing or something broke in the chaincase
 
A few years ago one our Yamahas did that. In our case the large nut, that holds the top gear in the chaincase in place, loosened + backed off and the top chain gear moved out far enough to just disengage from the jack shaft splines...an easy fix.

I would suggest it is either something in the chaincase or maybe a broken drive shaft.

Good ideas Will check tomorrow. Isnt the jackshaft that turns the track?`Near the front heat exhanger? If that was moving then it would be spinning the track right?

DUDE NO!! YOUR JACKSHAFT IS WHAT YOUR SECONDARY RIDES ON AND THAT GEAR AND NUT THAT BOB TOLD YA TO CHECK. SOUNDS LIKE PROBLEM IN YOUR CHAINCASE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

The jackshaft is the shaft that the secondary clutch mounts on, it runs over to the chaincase and turns the top gear of the chain drive. The drive shaft is the shaft in the tunnel that is joined to the bottom gear of the chain drive and spins your track. Obviosly then, you could have a broken chain [joins the two shafts by linking the gears] and it would give you the issues you have as well.
 
Ahh okay that makes plenty of sense. Yes the jackshaft does spin when i give it throttle. The secondary also spins
 
you had oil in the chain case....something broke or came loose.Can you move the change tensioner bolt tin easily.Guess hard to do with pipes in the way.Open up the chain vcase unfortunately.Get some pics for us to see.
 
Now there's your problem! LOL!
70 link chain was stock on a 2000 SRX...make sure you get the proper "HYVO" chain they came with in 2000 + up.

A chain failure is not common but as you have found it does happen
.
Possible causes[check your gears for possible damage as well]:

-too tight or too loose of tension, regularly check your chain tension
-just plain fatigue from high mileage
-jumping or spinning then hooking up abruptly
-hard riding
-over heating can cause fatigue, make sure you run proper oil in the chain case at the proper level and check it regularly[before each ride in case you have developed a leak] I use Amsoil or Shell synthetic chaincase lube

Once you get it back together at the proper tension with proper oil level it should be good for a lot of miles again.
 
chain case

Looking at your picture, the chain is doubled up on the right side pinched between the gear and the housing, it may have broke the chain case also, make sure you check that too.

x2....pull the gears and check them thoroughly, make sure there is no wear on them or missing teeth, and also check housing for cracks or damage from the chain getting jammed in there. Although, you didn't say the track was locked up did you, as in you couldn't turn the track by hand if you tried? That is good and means everything didn't get jammed together too bad.
 
Question. Would i beable to move the bottom shaft/gear by hand? Someone told me i should be able to move it and it will not move. Maybe thats why the chain broke? Im going to take the tension off the track and see if i can move the track by hand
