I decided to take the SRX out for a short burst yesturday.Wanted to test out the new studs, but that proved useless since the little snow here is trash.I did get a chance to aerate my lawn in a few spots..... :o| .Went in the field next to me where there was deeper snow off the tree line, but when I pin it...down I go into the dirt..lollllll...useless,need a hard packed surface
Went along the ditch to,seemed like the sled was holding back on me for some reason.I know I tightened my track pretty tight because I worry of stud's doing damage.I pinned it up to 70 mph and was smelling a whole bunch of burning rubber smell.I thought probably belt smell, but it was really evident. The clutches were hot to touch, but no belt marks on the clutch surfaces.Last night I hoisted the SRX up and loosened track more.I have it set to about 1 1/8 " sag with 22 lbs on the track, was a tad under an inch before.I decide to torque my studs again late last night and I notice the hyfax in the middle mostly have a burr of hyfax along the inside edges.Man must of gotten hot and was melting them..even on a short run.I am thinking because I have studs down the center, this tends to put more pressure up against the hyfax and probably inside edges more also.Mostly because riding on a harder surface like the ground instead of a good cushion of snow. And a lack of lubrication also. This is basically in the area between the idler wheels in front to the back inside ones.Wherever my oversized idlers are and rear over-sized wheels are there is not a problem.Wish I could put another cross axle with 2 wheels on the inside about the middle. But probably will not fit in there properly depending on the suspension components above(shock, and the s -arm above) may drop down on them in a good jump.I guess there is no real remedy for this ,just ride in good snow, park it in bad conditions. My SXR doesn't have this problem with hyfax wear at all.Probably going on 3 rd season and hyfax still great shape on it..go figure. :letitsnow :letitsnow :o|

I know other's have stated SRX's eat hyfax's to a point and then stops.Mine I thought has got to that point last season...so track is staying a little looser now..just waiting for a trail of green one day..that's all.!!! And mod..don't say (I told you so.)...LOLLLLL

it is really getting bad playing the wait and see game anymore.January is almost gone already... :o| .You are right Jeff, stay off this crap.I don't mind taking the 600 out for a boot since it is my ditchbanger anyways. The SRX is a different story. One would be foolish to go for a long haul in these conditions. It is warm all next week..rain coming maybe Thurs and Friday and some snow also.BUT that will amount to nothing..will still be crappy.I can't believe that along the Floodway to La Barrier Park that there was not enough snow to even drift the South side. Then at least we could go thru some deeper stuff.Nothing but tall grass, weeds and bull rushes ..and the tons of mega rocks the Province placed there on top and in drainage ways.
I would like to take the SRX to the RED RIVER,but probably would burn up all my Hyfax just getting there.... :o|

didnt have that trouble blue i guess u run that track pretty tight (chicken .....)lollllllllllllll :letitsnow

At least I got more miles in then daman so far..he has 0 and counting and he is proud of it to..lolll....7 sleds sit in his barn all fogged from last season's ending. That is bad..I would move if I were him to Alaska or somewhere.lolllll

hey blue to make u smile my sled pull very hard but can't get better top mph on radar lolllllllllllllllll :rulez: :o|

mod..time for you to find another sport...

no no not old enough well maybe if doctor give me bad news at the end of the week lolll :o|

Are the studs tightened down enough... No one mentioned this, but maybe the backs of the studs are eating your hyfax?

akrievins...there are no studs in the hyfax location, therefore no back of studs touching hyfax.I am looking into getting Track/hyfax savers to install.Because everythird window is clipped on my track,to much rubber friction with hyfax.

mod..maybe if you shut that window and keep your head inside more..you wouldn't catch the H1N1 flu bug....lolllll.Hope the news is good from the doctor. ;)!

yeah those doctor are never fast to give scan result :o|

run the track as loose as you can or until you hear it touch in the tunnel. then tighten it half a turn or so and then you should be good to go. i run my track at a 2" slack and i have 192 studs with no slidder issues, at least when there is enough for lube.

2"slack... wow that is alot. I must have it to tight.Last season's end in April with plus 7 C I was running in marginal snow and grass to get to the river, did like 7-8 hard pulls for a mile each time..basically on ice surface.Had no smell of burning and hyfax was good...go figure!!! No I go out for 10 minutes and hyfax melting.... :o| .On my 1" track, studs stick past nearly 1/4" past lugs.It looks like it should never even come close to the front exchanger by eye balling from under. Most guys will run a 1.25 track and it clears.Even with 1 1/8" sag with 22 lbs..it still feel tight to rotate by hand.Gotto recheck it again, because if one measures from the hyfax(which already is worn down some),am getting a wrong reading. If I install new hyfax..probably that 1 1/8" will be a lot less.
We are supposed to get up to 20 cm's (8 inches) of snow this coming weekend.Crossing my fingers. So will keep on wrenching on the sleds this week and get things ajusted right. You got any pics to show me!!!

:letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow ;)!

no sorry no pics. you shouldn't have any troubles with them hitting the front exchanger with what you have it will just touch the protectors in the tunnel when the track is ballooned. is your track new? i would loosen it up a little more and then try it. bring the wrenches with you in case you hear it touch and then just retightened it half a turn at a time until the noise is gone. it will make a small metal to metal contact, it's hard to explain it words. the first time it did it to me i thought there was something wrong with my drive chain or secondary. stopped and tightened the track a little maybe around half turn each side and it was gone. some guys do run the tracks way too tight. my 2001 was way to tight when i bought it. (same with the suspension) i have yet to stud it but when i do i will be doing it the same way i did all my other sleds. after the track stretches then i will retighten again until the noise is gone.

the looser it is the less drag and the faster you go. my sled is loose enough that i can push it forward or reverse when it is down on the snow, mind you that is on hard snow.

thanks for making me aware of things and confirming my fears over studs hitting things.Tomorrow I will loosen her up more. Change_up....1" sag with no pull..wow that is loose. The track is not new,has 1 season on it already sgauthier.I noticed that I can't get track to rotate with back end hoisted and engine at idle.In my SXR,the track turns when engine running and back up .
I have front protectors, tunnel protectors and waiting for a set of rear protectors from a TY member.

I have to say that the trails here are well, I dont know where they are, there isnt any snow to have trails!!! You are gonna burn things when you got no snow to lube the sliders, ect... Someone I know tried riding from Oakbank to Lac Du Bonnet on the weekend and it took him over 2 and a half hours which should have taken 40 mins max.. Beat up his sled bad and kept over heating all the way out, no snow to cool it down.... I am thinking this year is a write off....

We have a bit of snow in NWO...not great but enough to ride. This Fri we are going to go Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Souix Narrows and back. Some of our trails are groomed and all of them are marked. I have put on a few hundred miles already.

Glad you can get some riding in sideshow. I havnt even taken my Viper out of the garage yet. Still have it hanging up in the air...lol... Took it down once to get it ready and decided to hang it back up. Gonna have to fog her soon... :letitsnow
