LIFE MEMBER ONLY ONCE!!!
I decided to take the SRX out for a short burst yesturday.Wanted to test out the new studs, but that proved useless since the little snow here is trash.I did get a chance to aerate my lawn in a few spots.....
.Went in the field next to me where there was deeper snow off the tree line, but when I pin it...down I go into the dirt..lollllll...useless,need a hard packed surface
Went along the ditch to,seemed like the sled was holding back on me for some reason.I know I tightened my track pretty tight because I worry of stud's doing damage.I pinned it up to 70 mph and was smelling a whole bunch of burning rubber smell.I thought probably belt smell, but it was really evident. The clutches were hot to touch, but no belt marks on the clutch surfaces.Last night I hoisted the SRX up and loosened track more.I have it set to about 1 1/8 " sag with 22 lbs on the track, was a tad under an inch before.I decide to torque my studs again late last night and I notice the hyfax in the middle mostly have a burr of hyfax along the inside edges.Man must of gotten hot and was melting them..even on a short run.I am thinking because I have studs down the center, this tends to put more pressure up against the hyfax and probably inside edges more also.Mostly because riding on a harder surface like the ground instead of a good cushion of snow. And a lack of lubrication also. This is basically in the area between the idler wheels in front to the back inside ones.Wherever my oversized idlers are and rear over-sized wheels are there is not a problem.Wish I could put another cross axle with 2 wheels on the inside about the middle. But probably will not fit in there properly depending on the suspension components above(shock, and the s -arm above) may drop down on them in a good jump.I guess there is no real remedy for this ,just ride in good snow, park it in bad conditions. My SXR doesn't have this problem with hyfax wear at all.Probably going on 3 rd season and hyfax still great shape on it..go figure.
