Can't find the `09 or `10's yet. I personally don't like the weight. I ride the crap out of viper and pay the next day. Then I ride the crap out of my rev and feel ready for more the next day. I love my viper but I personally can't loose 100lbs. I'd die.

Sounds like the power steering on the new yamaha will be good for you then

A crossplane crank won't really work on a 3 cylinder motor. The whole crossplane theory on the 4cylinder machines is that it makes 2 cylinders fire around the same time. "big bang" derived motoGP bikes use 2 cylinders firing exactly at the same time, making it act like a big twin, instead of a 4 cylinder.
If you tried that with a 3 cylinder, you would have to have one hell of a counterbalance, and that would rob hp if you could even do it.
I have this vision in my head of a robot with 2 different length legs walking around in circles. LOL

It is actually Tom's thread. So it isn't yours to be jacked
I would love a 165hp version of the nytro, EPS or not.
Looks like they are at least working on a new ski, if they don't have that figured out on the test mules already.

Nope you'll never catch me on a apex. I have rode them and don't like them. Now a 150+ hp Nytro I would buy in a heart beat. They may wiegh a ton but feel lighter and I like the rider forward stand up feel.

I thought the new Nytro's were light. Is this not the case?? What does a Nytro weight?

The new sled doesnt have the crossplane engine, if it did the FIRST thing people would comment on was the sound. The crossplane engine also needs a counterballance shaft making it heavier. The cross plane was developed to smoothen the power delivery in a gear transmission, and to keep the tire alive, both not needed on a sled. The crossplane engine and the first gen R1 engine both make slighty more and broader torque than the gen 2 engine AND are both down on top end horsepower compared to the gen 2. My guess is that its the watercraft engine with varrible velocity stacks, hence the smoothness.

They are pretty light IMHO, but an apex isn't that heavy in realty. I forget what a nytro weighs, but it is a bit less than an apex.
I can lift the front of a fx nytro with not anymore effort than a 700-800cc 2 stroke performance sled.

Yeah, I guess you would notice the sound, but with stock mufflers even the 09+ r1 does not have a beastly sound. if it were a true big bang motor, then quiet mufflers or not you would notice that right away. I wonder how much knowledge and experience Tom or other testers of the new apex have with the 09+ r1 motor? I know I could tell if it was a crossplane crank motor instantly, but that is just me.
The crossplane crank motor was made for many reasons, tire wear and smoothing out of the power were 2 of them, but I don't see any evidence to prove that the new 09+ r1 makes less power than the previous generation r1. Even in stock (motor)form in AMA superbike racing the 09 r1 was as fast top end wise as the normal I4 machines, if not faster. The 09 R1 has variable intake (YCC-I) as well.
I guess we will find out in February what it really has under the hood.
