horkn said:Sounds like the power steering on the new yamaha will be good for you then![]()
stretchSXV said:Nope you'll never catch me on a apex. I have rode them and don't like them. Now a 150+ hp Nytro I would buy in a heart beat. They may wiegh a ton but feel lighter and I like the rider forward stand up feel.
horkn said:A crossplane crank won't really work on a 3 cylinder motor. The whole crossplane theory on the 4cylinder machines is that it makes 2 cylinders fire around the same time. "big bang" derived motoGP bikes use 2 cylinders firing exactly at the same time, making it act like a big twin, instead of a 4 cylinder.
If you tried that with a 3 cylinder, you would have to have one hell of a counterbalance, and that would rob hp if you could even do it.
I have this vision in my head of a robot with 2 different length legs walking around in circles. LOL

The crossplane engine also needs a counterballance shaft making it heavier. The cross plane was developed to smoothen the power delivery in a gear transmission, and to keep the tire alive, both not needed on a sled. The crossplane engine and the first gen R1 engine both make slighty more and broader torque than the gen 2 engine AND are both down on top end horsepower compared to the gen 2. My guess is that its the watercraft engine with varrible velocity stacks, hence the smoothness.
