I have an 03 viper er that i just did a rebuild on with, referbished crank from midwest crank, new rings, new seals, all went together great, put motor in last night, made sure all the connections were good, bleed the oil pump, got as much air out of the cooling system as i could, finally i was ready to start it up. Used 50:1 premix w/ 5 gallons as well, turned the key, took about 20 seconds and she was running. I just let it idle for a while maybe 5 minutes, pulled it outside, checked for leaks while running, so far so good, i think i got all the air out of the cooling system. after about 12 minutes i started giving short burps of throttle no more than 4000ish rpm, sounded great, so i kept doing it, again keepin the rpms down under 4500 and it seemed to do it w/ out a flaw. Ran for a total of around 25 minutes. Today i go out to run it some more maybe get the track spinning a bit, and the thing cuts out and boggs like there is a safety switch or something preventing it from revving up. i've looked over all the electrical connections and they are tight. Just looking for some more ideas, it sounds like its being cut not running out of gas or anything, where do i go?
Make sure throttle cable is not to tight, and routed correctly ...

make sure all the little clear connectors on the carbs are plugged in on the right hand side of the sled

Does it sound like tors? only rev 3000?
yes it will rev up once like normal, then bog back down and stay at or below 3000, the clear plug connectors are tight, that was the first thing i checked, the throttle cable has to come right over the air box and go straight down correct?

Yes over the air box there is a hook under the plastic for the bars make shure the cables are in the middle of it.
As whammy has stated put some play in your cable adjustment, it wont go any slower for doing it.

the throttle moves freely, i dont think its that but i will throw some slack in and see if it helps. Would the tors do such a thing? Would a warning light come on if that was activated?
after reading some other posts with similar symptoms, im thinking i dont have any throttle slack, god i love this forum. Now i just gotta get home and move the throttle cable around. On another note what should the measurment be for the oil pump, between the adjuster and the end of the cable pulled out?

all this info with procedures are here, try searching, you want 22mm to start. post back if you need more help.Sameyeam said:On another note what should the measurment be for the oil pump, between the adjuster and the end of the cable pulled out?
check to make sure ur getting enough air to the engine. we had that same problem with my '03 viper after we rebuild the engine. we ended up taking out the middle piece with the 3 tubes running down.we also got a couple extra vents behind the windshield for the air box. now she runs like a beast.
Actually it ended up being that the throttle cable was too tight and it was tripping the tors.....now it runs like a champ, i love the throttle response gained by clean pvs and new rings. i fattened up the oil pump a bit to 22.5mm and im just gonna run it the rest of the year. Now i just read last night how to tune the secondary for a new belt so i gotta do that cuz my belt squeeks and at 70 bucks i dont wanna wreck that belt
Good job,,,, now ride............
22.5 is lean by the specs!

yup, watch that oil cable! 22 is lean, 19 is rich. Don't go too rich, especially if you run premix the first tank, which I think is a good idea untill you are confident you are using the right amount of oil. It is amazing how much of a difference in oil use you will get if you go from 19 to 22mm. at least in my experience it has been a big difference.
yea i went with 50:1 in the first tank as well as w/e the pump puts in, im tracking how much it uses, im still gonna go richer on it, as to how rich idk, oil is cheaper than crank parts so i dont mind burning it.

50:1 in the tank and rich on the pump..... this thing is going to get no gas. The oil is mixed in the fuel pump on the yamahas. This means that an oil/fuel mixture is going though the jets. Adding more oil (either in the tank or via oil pump) is going to leave less room for gas...ie leaner mixture. More is not ALWAYS better.
