I had him off the line but once we got to about 70 MPH or so he would go flying by, we are both running stock sleds, 3/4" track with 1" studs, he is running 196 I am running 144. We are both about the same build but I was amazed when he went flying by me.
He has more hp...with proper tuning he should beat ya.

I find that hard to believe, did he have mods done and you not know? Those ZX 800's were not fast sleds for there size, the 700 ZX's could actually beat those 800's. They had around 135 hp stock.

135HP will still smoke your 115-120 hp Viper

vipers are awesome sleds... but racing 800's is getting abit tough on it... i would think in my opinion... but stilll its decent you did get him off the line.... for a good pull.. seeing how you have less hp... and smaller sled...

im surprised aswell, very. and i find cc means nothing, my srx 700 beats mach z 1000's, just an example. and vipers are a fast sled, i saw a stock one with a sno stuff can and 144 studs do 112mph sunday, on radar!
Viper needs pipes, clutch and picks to be a top end mile per hour machine. Still won't be the best though. It is a nice looking comfortable snowmobile with very good handling and not bad power. If you stuck it on the trail it would be keeping up with the MX all day. In fact since it has nice lower end power it may perform better on the trail then the MX.
MXZ was a very nice machine from Ski Doo.

A 116 hp Viper will not beat a good running 135 hp doo. Sorry guys...do the math. The only way the viper wins is if the doo is hurting or set up is out to lunch. It,s impossible.

k, but my srx beats 1000cc mach z's they claim 170 hp, and srx is just under 150 hp
My bored and mildly modified 99 SX 600 puts the kabosh on my buddies 00 SRX 700 with triple pipes and stingers out of the hole to about 75mph. Then we are about even.

but if u have a real tuned 135 hp sled, and a real tuned 120 hp sled... do the math, displacement/hp doesnt mean everything

My 01.5 Reneade 800 would spank my 04 Viper S everytime. That early Doo 800 rocked and even had slightly more top end than the 121" Viper.

Agreed that displacement doesn't mean everything but with all else being equal, H.P. is everything.

He claims his is all stock, but who can really tell, for all I know it could have been bored over with a stock can. I don't know what my RPM's were, I didn't really have time to look down as I was getting powdered with snow when he passed me lol
I like my viper but don't want to ruin the reliablity if I start clutching, piping and jetting it. I am however going to stick a 136" extension under it this spring that I just got from Viperking.

So you got got beat who gives a crap!!,leave the sled alone keep the reliability and just enjoy the fact your out riding a Yamaha and not wrenching and fixing all the time.Tysonmatc2 said:He claims his is all stock, but who can really tell, for all I know it could have been bored over with a stock can.
