Got Whooped By 2001 MXZ 800

My buddy used to have a 01 mxz 800 and that thing was silly fast. He spanked my srx all the time but not sure if it would be the same now sa at the at point I had a bad crank seal slowy taking out my cylinder and I wasnt turnning rpms. With that said it was still a real fast sled. And the srx is more like 140 hp not 150 right?

Turk is telling ya's how it is key word " good running " your 600 is not gonna be anywhere near a good running srx , no matter what year , tell your buddy his sled needs looking over ..

My MXZ 8 was fast but deff not as fast as my SRX. It would be a fun race but im confident from 50 on my SRX would pull it and never look back. Top end? forget about it...
 
srx takes anything on top end (stock), except the 800 triple mach z, 1998-03. they had good top end but take sooooo long to catch an srx its not even a race. people have said thundercats will take an srx on top, but i havent been caught by 2.

This shows how much engineering Yamaha did really on the SRX, it can only be beaten by sleds with significantly larger motors than the 700, I mean if it takes an 800-1000 triple to beat a 700, they did something right ;)!
 
I agree with you 100% no matter what you do to your sled or how much money you stick into it there is always someone faster. I am doing the 136" kit for a smoother ride and I wanted a longer track than stock.
 
bravo-guy, the other companys 800-1000 triples wont beat an srx lol, the mach z will catch it after miles lol in a race they wont
 
i was racing a rev 800 gsx tonight was faster than him in snow and hardpack. i have clutching and 1/4 track no studs on a 99 srx 700. also weigh 100 lbs more than him.
 
It may be that his sled isn't running right but seems to be pretty snappy, or it could be that he has no studs and is just spinning and that I have 196. All I know is that out of the hole, he can't touch me.
 
My son was running a friend of mine yesterday, 700 Viper 136 1.25 no studs VS 08 MXZ 800 renegade 1.5 no studs, packed snow the Doo had the take off but at end of field run the Viper had him by 2 sleds every time. In deep snow, 15" or so the Doo had him by at least 10 to 15 sled lengths. Both sleds are stock engines. I could out run both in the tight twisty trails with the SXR, but could not even be close on the drag, field runs. lol Al
 
All stock Vipers don't run the same. I have a friend that has one I can walk all over. My dad's Viper is the strongest one I have ever seen.....an F7 beater. So this 116HP Viper thing may be for some, but I do not believe ours are 116HP. I have beat 800 MXZ's before too. In fact one had motor work done to it and I pulled him when mine was brand new with pre-mix still in the tank.

I was playing around with an 04 Rev 800 the other night. Both rolling along at about 40mph in about 6" of snow. He pulled out to pass me so I grabbed some throttle and actually pulled away from him. I was quite surprised due to the conditions and the fact that he was a long track. Who knows though, maybe his sled wasn't working properly. Either way he didn't have much to say at the next stop.

Your dads machine maybe set up better than most.

example: engine and secondary lined up better for instant WOT,
skis could be alighned for less drag, better maintance and lubricated parts, better oils used, etc.

all the little things add up alot.
 
all i know is me and my best friend are running 01 srx's 196 studs my buddies 168 and we are killing some bigger displacement sleds , and really if you lose you can always just smile and say im riding a 10 year old sled... and to tell you the truth i like being on the srx in the woods im killing it up here
 
all except the old mans apex gt on the lake that thing keeps going and going and going and going
