Rode all weekend at cottage and SRX ran great. Was hitting 80 in 8" powder and 90-95 in the ski tracks. End of day yesterday was hitting 70 and barely keeping up w/500 ski doo in the powder. Haven't dug into it yet, but it seemed to not have that throaghty sound anymore. I did pull plugs and pipe & center plug were perfect. Clutchside was greyish white... not good I am thinking. I didnt have a flashlight to see anything. Easy fix is another carb clean??? I am thinking PV pull through. Any suggestions to look for? #$%&*

No blinking lights, 3 light flash on startup, ran fine just didnt have that "sound" and no topend.

P.S. I have been wrenching on this thing all season and am worn out! Plugged jet to begin season, then brake pad disentagrated, broke steering column and replaced, last week the hand warmers... bonus, last week I hit 110 ish on Devils lake w/o studs on 1/2" hardpack.

WHEN YOUR PLUGS ARE GREY /WHITE, ITS USUALLY TOO LATE. SORRY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Unfortunately that seems to be the way it goes, grey is usually melted alluminum.

What jetting were you running?

There have been so many melt downs, that I am beginning to wonder if even the stock SRXs are becoming unable to run hard on todays normal pump premium...even with the factory stock jetting.

Uh... yeah... uh, I probably did that. Or close to it. #$%&* Have had sled 4 yrs and been doing maintenance the last two years b/c certified service cost has gone up. #$%&* , that's what I get for having Actic Cat neighbor help. lol Jetting is stock if I recall correctly from when I bought it, but have never checked myself.

Oh yeah I forgot. Engine bolt that goes into motor mount arm let go last wk after I got the hand warmers to work and douched the secondary. Worked it like a lathe and put a 1/8" razor sharp lip on it. Ground the lip off and lock tited the holy sh_t out of the allen bolt. Too tired to get into sled tonight but did get flashlight out to look at cylinder and all looked well... lol for what it's worth. Gonna get friend to bring compression tester over tomorrow. Keep y'all updated.

people also should start jetting more on the rich side as well. too many guys are wanting every last once of power. that's OK but when you do this is you also run the risk of running into trouble especially away from home and your not familar with the gas station you stop at. you must jet for pretty well all around conditions. when i first got my new to me sled i checked the jetting on it to make sure the previous guy did not change anything. i made sure it was stock and my plugs are a little dark but i know it will not go boom everytime i pull the happy flipper.

sorry about your luck, at least your not sidelined ;)!

A couple things are interesting in this thread.......

1. The "shitty" gas issue is mentioned. I know I must us super in the SRX, and the E10 is not good for it. The last few fill up's have been in either VT or NY and only with non E10 gas. Is non E10 gas still shitty? I have also used the Star Tron additive at every fill up.

2. Based upon what I have read, the stock jetting is the best for almost all gas and conditions?

Thanks,
Zack

I would have to agree, I like to hit the gas too but not for too long and I always "throttle" it as I slow back down to a cruising pace.

Gas? I dont know. Comp tested last night and had 134 on clutchside, which is the one I was concerned about, and 137 on the other two. We ran a quick leak test to see if it was sucking and it didnt. But, it wasn't fully heated to riding temps either. I am thinking pulling the carbs, cleaning them again and checking the PV valves. I was also thinking of dumping oil in the gas tank to be safe and runnin her for a little to see what the outcome is. We think she is running lean across the board. I will get pics of plugs tonight and post. From what I can see through plug holes cylinder and walls look super clean... "so I got that going for me..."
