I seriously was thinking that I will be rebuilding the 600 this summer. What do you guys think of the idea that I convert it to a 700.Would it be as simple as just changing jugs, pistons and carbs? Would it be a reliable motor still.I could also put triple pipes on it and make the SX600 a sleeper.Am I asking for trouble here and is it really doable.Have any of you guys done something like this. Will 700 cylinders just bolt on to the crankcase, will the existing rods still be usable. Will the stroke be the same with the 700 cylinders? This is all food for thought. Was thinking that this could be really a cool project. If I can even get more bold...I could long track the sled to..future considerations.Hey still cheaper then buying a new sled.

direct interchange, just dont forget the cdi box. bottom ends are identical, carbs will work if rejetted, just need the cylinders, pistons and rings, head and cdi. i actually did the reverse. bought a 700 that was overported to my liking for a kids sled, traded out those cylinders and all for 600 parts. my 700 became a 600, his 600 went to 700. both sleds are actively running to this day after about 6 years.

cool snowdad..that info was what I needed to hear.I now may be on the lookout for 700 cylinders, heads, pistons, rings and cdi.Was going to re build top end on 600 anyways with pistons and rings.Only difference now it will add to the cost for cylinders and cdi box. Will have to search wisely for the extra parts.I am really looking forward to doing something like this...got to save some money up..because I also want to rebuild the SRX also and do some trail porting as well.Gonna be a few $$$ spent...hope I can come up with the extra $$ to do it all.Would also love to long track the 600 as well.It would be like a brand new sled all over again...cool!! ;)!

One more question..what about the cooling system, will the 600 exchangers be ok or do I have add maybe a larger rear cooler to be safe..probably I assume.

i got i srx 600 that went to hauck and the bored it to a 700 replated jugs and did some race porting to it and she id a sleeper just got to dial in the clutch ....

keeps the reply's coming guys.Wanna find out all I can about this kind of a conversion.Need to know all the facts..do's and don'ts of it.Things to watch out for and things to know.Like electrical issues..so far I see I need a CDI..what about the stator??I will compile everything, get prices by searching here and e-bay for all the parts and see what it comes out to money wise. ;)!

If your going to use a red head motor it all should be fine but if your planning on using one of the power valve monsters your crank is not the same! They have a different stroke! I say you already knew that anyways! I think that would be a great project!

yes I think it would be a cool project..like to see what the costs add up to compared to even finding a used 700 redhead motor..locally of course.

Not that it matters in this case but the 600 and 700 srx bottom ends ARE the same, arent they? I believe i read somewhere that this was the case. Its been done by a few members, going from 600 srx to 700. As for the cdi thing, i just cant understand why they are different,I thought they basically work with the stroke of the engine. But i know they are different just dont know why. Anyhow good luck with your project.

There is a 700 red head on Ebay on auction now for 575$

made my son's 99 600 into a 700 . had the 33mm carbs so those went on with the proper jetting,700 cylinders and head. never bothered with changing the cdi or coils. cooling system was the same as the 97 partial donor sled. used turk's clutching for a 99 700. the thing ran great. talked to the guy that bought it from us last weekend, he couldn't be happier.

so basically without cdi changes I wouldn't think there could be a problem. As long as the motor gets a spark..she will fire up.Good to hear about your convert. The more I hear, the more I am leaning towards the project. :o|
