how to......

ok so im a little numb when it comes to anything machanical. so where is the limiter straps and what are the benifites of tighter/looser?

The limiter straps or stopper straps are located in the front of the rear skid. The tighter you have your straps the more anchored your sled will stay to the ground. If you want to play with your sleds transfer I would recomend trying a set of the Bender Racing adjustable transfer rods.

click on the "Proceed to Parts Catalog" bar and then look up your sled from the pull down list and then click on "Track Suspension 2". I belive the limiter straps are item #16.

The tighter you make them the more weight you put on your skis (ski pressure) and the more your sled will want to turn. However, with more ski pressure the steering effort needed to turn the sled is greater and the less your sled will transfer weight to the rear when accelerating so your track will spin instead of grip and provide traction under acceleartion. All these things are just the opposite the looser you make your limiter straps.

mine is stock motor, just alot of time in clutching, 1.25 ripsaw track, and alot of studs. lengthing limiter straps will do it but mine will do it anyways if i hook up good and mine are drawed down pretty tight.
 
will loosening the limiter straps do any damage to anything or just loose ski pressure and ect.
 
Loosening the straps wont' damage anything unless you miss a corner due to a lack of ski pressure and slam the ol' girl into a tree.
You probably don't want to back them off any farther than having the bolt flush with the adjusting nut in my opinion. If you take them out then you will most likely damage the track because the W-arm can dig into the track.
 
Loosening the straps will not do that, I tried. I think that he has 1) adjustable control rods or he take them away as some mountain max riders, or 2) (probably most likely) there´s a non yamaha skid in that sled. A friend of mine put a srx engine in a -98 zr 600 and it was very funny to ride, push the throttle and onlything I see was blue sky. And it worked great in powder almost impossible to get stuck (I wasn´t able to).
 
watch the video closely, it appears the t rods are still in tact. in addition to loosening the straps, crank the preload on the front skid shock, loosen preload on the rear skid shock and the ski shocks. mark, measure, or pay attention to where they are now for a return point. then work on traction, gearing, and clutching. it will lift if the track doesnt spin or the clutches dont slip.

does that sound like it would do it?? and he said he used a more course belt
 
I really think he took the t rods off or at least removed the adjuster nuts so there was nothing to limit the rear swing arm from bottoming out.
 
i remember a link to an article floating around here last year that talked about the origional photo-shoot for the srx when it first came out. they removed something from the suspension to get it to wheelie for the photo-shoot. it wasn't the t-rods it was something else but i can't remember. i think the article was a multi piece article on the history of the srx. maybe someone else will remember
