Thinking about some port work over the summer. I want it to be reliable still & from searches this may be the best bang. Who is the best man for the job & approx. how much am I looking to spend for a job like this? any input is helpful.
 

Bender Racing is a good bet. Ian Tomassi is also know for good quality work. Either way you go with taxes, shipping, labour, etc... be ready to depart with about $1000 +/-.
 
Have heard good things about mrviper......I believe he's in Wisconsin.....
 
bender has extended their spring porting discount for TY members only. 30% off all porting. normal for srx is $649, w/ TY discount is $455. add a bender can & vforce 155 - 160 h.p..

btw, brian still does all of benders porting. he did my 835srx & IS700srx plus many more over the years.

I have a friend that used MR Viper for porting and head work on his SRX. He cut 5 tenths off his 1/4 mile times. I've never heard nothing but good things about Mr Viper.


What are you looking to do with the sled?

Also I'd be very skeptical of 15 to 20 hp gains with Porting, reeds and a Silencer. the 780 srx's barley make 165 hp. Your talking an increase is bore size , better porting and a better head design.

I had my SXs + my trail VMAX4 ported by Bender back in 2000. I was and am still very happy with the results.
 
not expecting those hp gains. just a better all around powerband. Very aggressive trail sled & 3-4 grudge match races a year. 1.25 X 136 ripsaw last year & looking for more zing, that's all.
 
I am going to port my srx as well, everyone else is telling me ian tomasi is the shit, they tell me Bender and Hauck don't give ya shit for gains, anyone else here the same or has had bad reports from them two?

go look up Lanzi's on Youtube. You'll see a Mr Viper Setup Viper stomping all over a couple bender prepped Vipers!!

bender prepped vipers.....no. guys that bought parts from bender & set them up themselves.....could be. bender & all the other aftermarket companies sell a bunch of parts to people all over the world each year. just because someone buys parts from them & bolts them on does not mean their machine is prepped by that company. you know, kinda like the guy that buys a specific manufactuers jacket that says "race team" or "racing" is not really a member of the race team & doesn't know anyone on the team, he just bought the jacket hoping people will look @ him & think he's really cool & important. i bet you have a closet full of those jackets!! LOL.

I have a set of Bender ported 600 SRX cylinders.. All I can say is wow!! If you think these guys can't do good porting you should have a look at my cylinders. The work is second to non! 128 mph in 2000 ft with a 600, I think the performance is there too!! I have a set of Mr. Viper 780 cylinders aswell, the porting work on these is a bit rough in comparison, it runs good though. As far as Iantomassi's work, I'm not saying it's bad because it's not!! They do good work. Just think there's a little bullshit flying around this post!!! $455.00 for a porting job!! Good luck beating the value you are going to get out of this. It's a Great deal. You can barely get a set of reeds for that price!!
 
I AM AT THE POINT NOW WHERE I TRY AND GET ALONG WITH EVERYBODY. I HAVE HAD BATTLES WITH JTTSRX FOR YEARS, I HAD MANY PISS MATCHES WITH MR VIPER, AND I EVEN HAD A RUN-IN WITH BUFFALO-BOB. TODAY I RESPECT ALL YOU GUYS, YOUR OPINIONS HAVE HELPED ME WITH STUFF ON HERE ALONG WITH MANY MANY OTHERS. THESE SLED PERFORMANCE SHOPS ARE ONLY GONNA HELP YA SO MUCH, ITS STILL UP TO '' YOU '' TO GET IT TO WORK. I CAN T EVER DISH '' BENDER ''. JUST THEY NAME ALONE STANDS FOR TOTALLY RESPECT IN MY BOOK. I'm going to tell you all a story. A well known member of this site sent his Cylinders to bender racing to be ported. When he got them, back boy did they look sweet. The ports were polished to a mirror finish. When he ran the sled he gained no RPM from when he sent it in and it ran no better. Then he sent the Cylinders to another company and they measured the cylinders out. they were bone stock spec wise. All Bender did was polish the ports. They change the specs one bit. The member had the new company report the cylinders and he gain RPM's and Performance when he got them back.

So Jabber Mr. Viper's cylinders may not look as pretty as the bender cylinders do but there could very well be more power there.

I don't have enough money to do it twice. So fill me in on the port jobs, you can pm. to keep people or companies from getting there feelings hurt.
 
SRX porting

I can't say anything regarding MR. Viper, Hauck or Bender because I personally have never had any work done by them. I have had motor work done by Iantomassi and am extremely pleased. My next race motor will be going there also. Gerry is a straight up good guy. He and his crew provided me with what they promised and I couldn't be happier.
