swapping seats?

Im looking to raise the seating height on my 02 srx so Ive been looking for a boss seat with no luck, so Im wondering if swapping to the viper seat will raise it up some and is it worth it? I need your guys advice Thanks!
 
Just make a riser for your seat. The Viper seat won't do much for you. A search for seat riser should find old threads with pics on this. I made my own riser before I went with a Boss. The riser is great, but the Boss is even better.
 
I just swapped out my srx seat for a viper seat and it looks badass...only problem is you need to change out the gas tank to get a nice look b/c srx tank has screws on it and the viper tank doesnt. Viper seat is half the weight, looks nicer and gives a little height but not much to talk about. hope this helps
 
thanks for the info ya I really like the look of the viper seat for my sled but since im tall 6'1 I need to be sitting higher. And correct me if im wrong but thought I read a post recently that boss seats are all out?!
 
Try a 2 inch handlebar block riser...it will help immensely...best upgrade i made. And you dont have to change stock cables or wires.
 
find a local upholster and take your seat there with you and some pics of a boss let him know what you have, and what you are looking for. it will be cheep and done the way you want it set up for you. also let him know how dense you want your foam.

I already put a 2" riser block on last year and compared to riding on my friends sleds feel like im sitting on the ground lol and the other thing is my seat has 2 big gauges in it so now im at a crossroads.
 
hmmm, have you checked out misc. under snowmobile tech...there is a step by step viper seat riser installation there.
 
As mentioned by TSU above, Why not make your own seat? This is what I did:

The seat mod transformed the way the sled rides. It feels like adding 6" more suspension travel.
 
No I havent cause im debating if I should buy a viper seat and the gas tank to make it all work and have that seat modified or try and find a boss highrise seat? What do you guys think is my best bet?
 
I'm 6'1" also and my buddies viper seat is still way to low for me. I went to an upholstery shop and got my srx seat stuffed with more foam so it came straight across from the highest part of the seat with fairly firm foam. I got him to slope it down starting about 6 inches from the front of the seat so it matched up to the gas tank again. There is a gap in front because of the seat sloping back down to the tank but I am planning to put a tank bag on this year and it will fill that up. This is the best thing I have done for my sled for ride position and even my buddies say that it rides like a cadillac with the extra foam in the seat. It cost me 100.00 to do it.

Yeh, I have a couple... not the best pictures but you can see what I did. If I did it again I would try to keep the pleating that the original seat had and the blue on the sides. I think those details looked better than what I have now. The upholsterer just used a brand new piece for the whole black area. PM me your email address and I will sent you them. I don't know how to put them up on this site.
 
So now your srx is about as high as the back part that slopes to the taillight but the upholsterer used different fabric? Im interested to see sum pics since im hoping to get going on this project.
 
This is what I did to my Viper.
I pulled back the front of the seat cover and shaped and glued a two inch piece of high density foam then using contact cement and staples I put the seat cover back on. I also made an inch and a half seat riser to go with the extra foam in the seat. The bars are also raised about two and a half inches as well. All this has greatly improved driver comfort.

Ya that was my original plan to just get a boss seat but cant find one anywhere, so as it looks those boss seats are alot shorter than a stock seat meaning two people cant fit correct? And stein I like your idea so u basically just made a riser out of wood and added foam could you give me more info or pm me. Thanks
 
To answer the above questions, Yes my seat did start life as a stock viper seat. The only thing that remains now is a small portion of the inner plastic frame and the blue vinyl with the Yamaha logo that I was able to salvage. The foam is a high density block that I carved to shape with an electric carving knife. A new cover utilizing a combination of "gripper" cold temp and carbon fibre vinyl was then stiched up, streched and stappled in place.

I fabbed up the back rack out of some flat aluminium bar. A couple passes on the mill gave it some extra shape. There is a LED tail light mounted on the back of the rack.

My total investment is close to the the cost of a Boss seat, but I feel I ended up with something far more unique and better quality.

Yep, It comes straight across from there. The upholsterer used a new piece from the backrest forward. If you get it done ask them to use stickier material, not smooth stuff. When you get snow on the smooth material it gets very slick. I sent you the pics... let me know if you get them and what you think. By the way... the picture of my sled hooked onto the crossfire 1000 is from the last run I took last March. Was at a poker rally with 2 crossfire 1000"s and a modded 670 doo. One crossfire blew a diamond drive, the others exhaust split and caught the sled on fire and the doo"s harmonic balancer behind the recoil broke two bolts off and threw his crank. I ended up towing all three to help that day... lol.
