I knwo I am goin to get flamed for this but it has to be said

When is yammie goin to get a new sled under 500lbs ??

and Next when are they goin to get a good rear skid ??

I am a huge yammie fan :yam: But they are goin the way of the polaris quicker then I like to see. Its all great we have 4 strokes but damn lets get one that dont weigh 70 lbs more than any other sled around.

I have said for years that weight isnt that big of deal but damn these things are pigs if stuck or just plain moving around then if you want reverse u add even more wieght.

Sad to say I now Ride a Rev I still have my old 1997 yammie sx piped and still love to trail ride on it. Just 9 in of travel is just sad I climb back on the rev and blast over bumps that I would go around on my yammie cause it would kill me to go over them with lack of suspension. Even sadder 8 years after my 97 came out they have barely changed their heavy outdated rear skid.. I pray every day that yammie again becomes the sled of my choice. Till then i ride the Rev praying yammie wakes up soon :ORC
 
The weight thing..they're workin' on it..obviously.

Did you miss the two, completely new, skids this year?? I sorta understand peoples frustration but I still need to ask; Have you actually ridden one? I rode an 04 RX (Dad's demo) all last season and I really don't want to go back to my SXR! The ONLY time I complained about the weight was loading it into my truck...that's it. I rode it everywhere, climbing, actual ditch banging, jumping, powder...everywhere..it will go places an SX will not...and I RODE it all season...no crank, fire, or "other" issues here..:)
 
Well, Ive heard rumors of a new Yamaha ditchbanger in the works.
Ive also heard that the RX-1 is quite a good big bump sled with the additon of the Monoshock RA.
I do somewhat agree with you, but I think that Yamaha's lineup started to go wrong back when they dropped the Phazer and the 500s.
Im hoping that in a few years I will be able to find a well cared for SXr. I had been leaning towards a 4-stroke, but Im not sure I want a sled that is almost 700 pounds wet.
Dont count Yamaha out though. They have shocked the world in the past (SX, SRX RX-1, RS Vector) and you can bet they have something in the works.
Even if they dont come out with something to compete with the REVs, Firecats and Fusions I'll still be back on a Yamaha when Im next due for a different sled. It'll either be an SXr or a 4-stroke. I figure ANY Yamaha is better than any other brand.

How many well set up 4 stroke yammie sleds have you actually ridden? How many have you picked up out of 4' powder? If you are lifting your stuck yammie you ain,t getting unstuck properly. Pull on the ski hoop & gently give the sled throttle....why are you lifting it?

stuck sled I have been riding for years and getting sled stuck and unstuck for years as well. If you get stuck only enough to pull gently on ski loop guess what you aint stuck. :ORC I have seen the suppoisedly new skids the only one that is nto jsut a slightly revamped proaction is the mono shock wich is avail only on the Rx-1

Yes i have ridden all the new Yammie 4 stokes dont forget I am a huge fan of yammie. But they are nearly back to the feel of the VMAX-4 in wieght and handling. Yes total power house for a motor and i love the smoothness BUT still a tank and rear skid is sorely outdated. Back in the day it rocked but that was 8 years ago proaction came out. I watch rev and firecat riders put out half the engery to ride the same bumps that tear us up yes you can ride over them but wiht what amount of effort??? 9 in of travel cant even compet with 14in" or more sorry it just cant happen. Like i said I am not a yammie hater at all I raced them for 2 years back in the day when they were the king right now they are barley the queen in the race area more like a little princess. And no matter what anyone says fast sled sell. yes the rx-1 is fast in a 3 mile drag but who cares about a 3 mile drag. :ORC

All I ask is 2 simple things drop wieght a get a real suspension and they could easily rule again. Right now wieght slows them down a ton imagine if they actually weighed 550lbs like revs and had a real sususpension nothing would toush them period :rockon:
 
how does the proactive compare to any previous proaction? Hmm, i kinda thought there is nothing the same between them, weird. Yamy needs a quick race sled? What do you call the SRX? The only thing that touches them consistenly is the F7, and its design is 5 years newer than the original srx. The monoshock suspension of the rx1 has already been said to be the best in the industry. How many have you rode? I know yamahas aren't built for what some people want, but a lot of people like them a lot. If you dont, ride what you like
 
Ummm..11" of travel...I've also got a Vmax4...not even close in ride or handling..or smoothness...or gas milage lol. Seems like everyone that rides one likes the ride. If its not your cup of tea...enjoy your rev.
 
Believe me, Turk knows what stuck is more than most of the rest of us . . .

Also, the proactive is not a revamped proaction at all from an engineering point of view . . .

u say tomato i say tomoto still the same thing still heavy and outdated no matter how you look at it.

Mono shock only new thing in nearly 10 years and it is on heaviest sled Yammie makes. Yammie dont have a snowcross team for a reason they cant compete. So what does that say for the suspension?? :o|
 
97piped700sx: Why dont you quit bitching and sell your Yamaha and never look back if they are all that bad. Go over to amsnow to bash Yamaha's, you'll fit right in as you obviously dont have a clue what your talking about.
 
I would like to know who builds a real performance sled under 500 lbs? According to actual weight measurements in Supertrax 2005 No Bull Buyers Guide: Ski Doo Mach Z = 600lbs; Fusion 900 = 615lbs; ZR900 587.5 lbs; FireCat 552lbs etc...
Sled weights published by the manufacturers are pipe dreams.

I knew it would make die hard blind to facts guys mad to see truth posted. They are same ones that are mad when left behind when their suspension cant keep up to new ones by other brands I understand why your bitter
 
He dont need to bash someone for not enjoying the Yammy sleds as the rest of us do. If we all liked Yamy or Doo there would be only one sled manufacture. Yamaha has a market since they are still in the sled business.
I would not give up reliability or gas mileage for maybe alittle more comfort.
And when I pass the doo's and cats stuck on the trail broke down or filling the gas tank I look at my yamaha and call it "Old Faithful" it has never let me down. I ride with other yamys and no problems. Yes they are heavier then others and the rear skid is not the best but NO OTHER manufacture can touch the reliability and mileage. And when you look at the gas mileage of the 4 strokes WOW..they cant be touched. When you enjoy long rides you want reliable and best gas mileage. Yamaha is catering to a different market class when the other manufactures have left this behind.

I was in the market for a new sled this year or next. I actually looked into the firecats as I thought they were decent looking and couldn't believe the performance they put out. I was not impressed at all (as were 3 of my buddies I ride with) when looking at them in person. The fit and finish of the firecats are worlds below the yamaha. Most people I know aren't racing from bar to bar to see who gets there first anyways. The reliability of them turned me off too.

I really wanted a new RX1 or Vector - but couldn't swallow the price tag, and I wanted to see what people thought of the '05 RX1 with the weight savings and new rear skid.

I ended up going with a brand new leftover '02 sx viper. These have more travel than the vmax sx's (I'm coming off a '97 600sx) and should handle very well. I also really like the smoothness of the engine. My twin (and all other twins for that matter) are very rough engines. The yamaha triples are very smooth.
 
I ride with polaris, arctic cat, skidoo's. Everyone of the guys brag about there sleds. I like to wrench in the garage, but not when there is snow on the ground...so I ride yamaha! hehehe.

Rev is a nice sled from what I hear tho. You know, we are all "snowmobilers" no matter what we ride. We all the thrill of the sport, dont matter to me what you ride! See you one the trail. Brent
 
97piped700sx, why don’t you take you complaints some place else. If you bought another brand, why don’t you go over there and complain to them. I am sure they will have a great time bashing Yamaha. To each his own. With as few post as you have on this site I am sure you are only here to get users worked up and cause some kind of controversy. If you cant contribute in some way shape or form, leave.

Well What I Have Hurd Is That The Rev Doesnt Way Much Less Than A Rs Vector At 537# Dry Thats 9# Hevier Than The Srx,so The Way I See It Any Sled Packed Full Of Snow And Is Stuck Is Heavy Period!
 
Lets talk about reliability. I have an 83 enticer. still runs like new,and have now passed it on to the kids. I just upgraded to another Yamaha, and my next sled will be a Yamaha. I My 21 year old sled has given me less greif than what I have just read.
 
Whenever I read people gripping that Yamaha doesn't build something to compete with the Rev or Firecat I wonder how old those guys are. My guess is that they're between 25 - 35. Guess what guys, you're not the market that Yamaha is targeting. I read that Yamaha's target demographic is the older rider (40+) that has more to spend on toys and want more sophisticated equipment. They're building sleds for older riders that want to ride a sled that'll last more than a year or two before it's worn out and needs replacing.

Tell ya what, go ride your Revs and F7s now, and when you're done beating your body up flying over bumps at 60 all day, and you've had to replace a worn out sled every 2-3 years from riding that way, and your "bad (insert body part here)" is a better weather forcaster than the Nat'l Weather service, then look at Yamaha again. They'll be making the sleds you and your family wants.
