SXR 600 out of sled and going for re-build

my wife baked 2 pies in the oven the next day..there was no issue of smell then, even though the pipe was smokin at the end were there was oil residue..Smoke detecter went off once because I opened oven door to much to peek inside.Windows open and fans going. All is well at Blue's house now.LOL

spent most of my day putting 600 motor back together, didn't rush and took my time with everything.Just have to install the oil pump and lines yet and it is time to drop it in the chassis.
BUT..have to clean the chassis first and get the steering rod back on.
Winter is knocking at the door.Blizzard conditions one Province over and up to 25 cm of snow just west of us....lots of rain right now but temps are to mild yet.If it was below 0 degrees today,we would have had a couple feet of snow and drifting since the winds are crazy.A huge weather system is passing on through.Man winter starting early for a change.... :letitsnow :letitsnow

Well got the motor dropped into the now well cleaned chassis.I can shoot them Japanese engineers. Can't believe how they made it so hard to hook up the oil line to the pump from the tank and getting the big cooling line on at the same time.. :o| BUT the worst is the bleed screw for the pump,it is way down on the top of the pump which is way down under the engine bracket..good thinking. At least on the SRX they have an extension line with bleed screw exposed to easily....damn #$%&* Thank goodness I have the motor on a electric winch for lift or lowering, could never do it all by hand..impossible.Thursday will slowly work on bolting down motor and lining it up ,then mixing new anti-freeze,clean carbs and plug in all cables and install the exhaust...will see how far I get.CAN'T wait to hear her running also.

I always use aluminum friendly anti-freeze and deionized water along with Water Wetter with my mixes.Wasn't to bad cleaning her up.Also re-routed the wire harness from under the motor to over the pull start .Since the motor was out I changed the tie-rod ends on the steering rod also, only time it can be done anyways.I may not get her up and running today ..but tomorrow for sure.I am not rushing anything here...........
Will set up the primary also.Because these motors over-rev from the factory,I will be going 3.6 in both rivet holes.Have brand new stock weights and rollers going back in also.Cleaned and re-packed the drive shaft and jackshaft bearings with low temp grease at the same time and will still have to change chaincase oil.It is all coming together.Once I go thru the skid with either new or re-packed bearings..she'll be like brand new again..Actually wasn't that bad doing a rebuild, you learn a lot of new things. Now the next time I will hit 3000 miles on the motor..I will change the rings as alot of people say is what should be done. These motors are bulletproof. The motor had over 12,000 km's on it and the cross hatch on the cylinder walls were so present. These nikasil cylinders are tough..... ;)!

thanks guys..nice project.I know it is alot of hard work, and some guys just try a re-build themselves..but this is my first time and it gets easier with time.Besides can't see paying the dealer $2000 to do it for me.

some info

Water wetter

Water Wetter®

Unique agent for cooling systems that doubles the wetting ability of water
Rust and corrosion protection allows for use of straight water in racing or reduced antifreeze levels in warm climates
Improves heat transfer and reduces cylinder head temperature
May allow more spark advance for increase power and efficiency
Use one bottle for most passenger cars and light trucks, treats 3 to 5 gallons or 13.2 to 15.9 liters. Vehicles with larger cooling systems should use two bottles. Small cooling systems should use 1oz (3 to 4 capfuls) per quart
Compatible with new or used antifreeze (including DEX-COOLTM and long-life versions) to improve the heat transfer of ethylene and propylene glycol systems
Satisfies ASTM D2570 and ASTM D1384 corrosion tests for glycol-based antifreezes

WaterWetter - 12oz - $9.95

Great job Doug, I bought a 02 600sxr last fall and I,m going through it, suspension wheels, bearings seals completly tore rail apart! I got the machine for $460.00. Took it home and fired it right up!

these 600's are extremly bulletproof.I am not easy on mine, always have it pinned. But will be going crazy because can't do that for a couple of tanks until it is broken in properly..then look out.I love jumping anything at high speed, nothin like being air borne for a while..lolll

Hopefully I can get her running today.Just have airbos, exhaust and anti-freeze to mix yet..oh yeah and change chaincase oil.Probably will make a video of the start up again..got to love all that smoke...
