sled firing on 2 cylinders

I remember that post...the pick up tubes/vents were said to be bigger. Maybe the Vipers choke plungers are different from the SRXs as well but I don't know for sure, I guess you would have to try it. I do know that the SX plungers are interchangeable with the SRXs as I have done this.

I just checked the part numbers and the Vipers have a seperate part number, from SRXs + SXs, for the choke plungers. It could be your problem because if is different and does not seal the choke fuel circuit it would obviously run very rich...that would be great if this is the only problem!!! Keep us posted!

Reading this thread I would have guessed the starter circuit (or choke plunger as you call it). But I see you are already checking them out. One test for future reference is to starve that carb of fuel. If it picks up for a little bit after the bowl nears empty, you are getting too much fuel. Next is to ensure that all carb venting is good.

Well when I pull the breather box, giving the engine more air. The sled works better meaning, My mag cylinder is getting enough air to support the amount of gas it is recieving because of the rich fuel condition. Also when it is freezing cold say -15-20 below C the sled actually preforms like it should!

Me and "toofastsrx" just got done with a guys sx 600 that was running on 2 cyls and guess what thr culprit was...dirty carbs. Nothing you would really notice with the naked eye either. They must be gone through with a fine tooth comb.

So I changed the choke circuit on the cylinder that I was having issues with, reinstalled the breather box started her up and totally different sled. When I looked at the plungers from the viper and the srx carbs the viper plunger was significantly larger . I can see now why it was running like crap . I was too rich on the mag. But when it was cold it would run fine. Its minus 10c today so not overly cold. I guess my problem is solved. Thanks everyone who made suggestions. This site rocks

I noticed another problem today while I was riding, I have a hesitation from idle to WOT. It wont break loose unless I pin it,let go and pin it again also my mid range seems to be a little under powered. Once it gets goin it really hauls @$$ I think I really need to fine tune these carbs any suggestions on where to start? I had fuel screws set at 1 1/8 turns out and I tried 1 1/2 turns out not much difference.

Sounds like a possible clutching issue to me.

First thing to do is check engine clutch alignment/spacing then put a new belt on it and try it again + make sure your belt is not too loose..worn belts and adjustments can easily fool you into thinking the bog is a carb problem.
If you have a lot of miles on your clutches, it could be time to clean/rebuild them.

As an after thought...It could also have been carb icing in the new wet snow...did you have your carb heat on?

I switched the clutches with my completely rebuilt ones with stock weights and still the same problem. My carb heat is on I think I will have to triple check the carbs. I must have overlooked something!

I cleaned the carbs for the 4 time and no change! I pulled the head off the cylinder that I was having trouble with and sure enough it was shining! the inner O ring had been leaking coolant into the cylinder. Now I have No parts here because my shop doesn't stock anything. I say it will be after Christmas by the time the parts arrive .

now, since you found the problem what you need to do is take a peice of wet dry sandpaper, place it on the kitchen counter or for sure smooth level surface(best when wife isnt home ;)! ) and drip some water on it, something like 320 grit is good. Take the head and lay it on the paper and make small figure 8's with it, rinse it off and see if the surface is evenly cleaned off. If it is its ok and needs nothing but new o-rings to be good to go, it it leaves areas, youll need it skim cut. You can do the same thing with the cylinder upside down if you tear it down that far, it could just be a weak o-ring, have alot of miles on it?

I might have some new o-rings out in the shop, I surely could get them mailed to you before Christmas.
