Gonna miss this sled!

M-Man - glad you are OK. Tough break, nice SRX, hate to another Yami go the parts heap (or ebay LOL). Good luck with your new sled. S'pose you will go to the no-smoke side?

Few years ago we had a similar accident happen on the Blue Bear trail 10 minutes ahead of our group. A young guy on a too-big for him Poo blew a tight corner and hit a tree just like you did. He's riding the trails in heaven now. That incident changed the way our group rides permanently. We slowed down and always make sure to ride within the abilities of our slowest rider, and most of us have helment radios so the leader can warn of slippery corners and on-coming traffic.

Ride safe on your new sled and keep the rubber-side down!!!

Proud to own a yamaha, Proud to have had the privilege of owning a 2001 SRX 700. Started the ball rolling tonight guys, 2011 Yamaha Vector LTX GT is gonna be underneath the Christmas tree this year :-) Merry Christmas everyone, and a safe riding season to all!

Most of us will eventually be over on the 4 Stroke side...if we want to keep ridiing "Blue"...see you there!

Oh Ya...I agree ...GET A NEW HELMET!!

Bob

Don't worry guys, I will be getting a new helmet with the new sled. This one did exactly what it was supposed to do...kept me alive. This one will be kept now only as a reminder to me. I have two other helmets btw so I will be alright :-)
So far as the turn, I was only doing 25-30ish, and it was a fairly easy turn, really big eye opener, I did everything possible to get her to turn, but it was as if the skis were pointed straight ahead. You just get this knot in your stomach because I knew I was pushing through the turn and nothing but trees were waiting to greet me. I feel for everyone that has suffered loss through this sport, but I do not regret riding, and I will continue to ride as long as I possibly can. I will post a pic of the new machine when she is at her new home in my garage.

Mountain Man - I re-read my post, and I am really, really sorry if I offended you. I did not mean to imply you were riding too fast or out of control. I have hit those slick/icy corners too where turning was just not gonna happen. I have just been lucky enough to have sizable banks to bounce off of, or not to have trees in the corner, and the only thing hurt was my pride. I was just pointing out that a single moments events can change a life, and was glad you were OK....

I too was running the Caberfe trail system this past weekend. The corners were frozen dirt, not really ice yet. Carbides don't cut into dirt as well as ice. My son found a buried stump in the Udell Hills area with the Viper. Bent trailing arm, luckily not as bad as yours. I am glad you are fine. Al

At least your not hurt. That not a bad fix you gonna part it or sell and let someone fix her up and let her keep living?

mdbauer no worries, I didn't want everyone to think that I was riding outside of my abilities, like hitting black ice with your car there is not much you can do. I wish I had some better pictures for you, I got a better look when we off loaded at the dealer, everything on that left side is toast, the tunnel is bent, i ruined the track riding it back, the hood and side pan are toast, the primary clutch is cracked from the ski pushing into the side, the rear mount for the trailing arm is bent way back, it is just a mess. I am happy to report that the engine rebuild went great and that the motor still sounds excellent. glad your son is ok al! guys, I am going to let the dealer have it. I have spent enough time and effort on this one and they gave me a good trade in price.

Moutantain Main,
Glad you're ok after the incident. Have heard alot of stories that didn't end up well for riders. Unfortunately alot of them were just hot doggin' it and riding out of their control zone. Certainly doesn't sound like that was the case for you. Regardless though, it really makes you take a step back and think about things before and while you're riding. You know, I've been riding sleds since I was 7 and "knock on wood" haven't had any close calls but I can tell you this, My new Viper is my first real "performance" sled (last one was a 2000 Polaris 550) and although I had already resolved myself to the fact that I would be taking it real easy for a while until I got used to it, hearing your story just reinforces that fact and that sometimes "&*!! happens to the best riders and to ALWAYS wear a helmet!!
Anyway, glad your OK and ready for your next sled.
Happy Holidays,
