wont run....pulling out my hair!!!!

Ok kids, 98 srx had what problem? They were prone to crank issues. It was not a recall, so not all srx's were fixed, but it was covered under warranty. It is out of warranty now, the issue shows it self by running poorly, and eating sparkplugs. I don't know who can fix this, I would ask pioneer performance, as he used to work for maxximum I believe.

Put on my other cdi and rerouted my throttle cable. Seems to be idling now but still drops a cylinder at low rpms. I feel I'm getting closer but no fat lady singing yet. Almost forgot, the pilots are free and clear I used the same process as stated above. Thanks again everyone. Merry Christmas!

if it was done under warranty..there should be a record of it.Go to a dealer and give your serial number and maybe they can punch it into the computer and find out.

K thanks I got one right up the road I'll get a hold of em soon. Tanks again

It may or may not have been done. Warranty does not mandate that all cranks were fixed. The shop I worked at did 25 or so of the 30 sold, the other 5 customers did not have problems due to their riding style.

I know we keep harping on the carb cleaning issues but one more kick at it...make sure when you clean the carbs that you actually remove the pilot air jet[right at front of carb throat] and ensure they are not plugged then squirt carb cleaner into where the jet was to ensure the passage is not blocked. As well you should remove the float needle seat and ensure the top hat filters are clean, its a pain but these filters can get a white plastic like coating that can and has resulted in performance issues and engine damage.

A buddy of mine just had both of the above carb issues on his 1998 SRX.

That crankshaft does need to be confirmed it is in phaze as well.

I have had the carbs apart several times and in the ultrasound cleaner with mineral spirits. Also poked out orifices with wire and blew air through all. Also am pretty sure original cdi is junk because sled idles very high when swapped in. Pickup coil was very dirty also. Hopefully something sle isn't going to fry my new cdi.

ok....So its been a loooong time but i pulled the engine and looked everything over. Ive been riding my 03 rx1 since ive had problems w this but figured it was time again. Looked over and cleaned everything. Dialectric grease in every connection on the sled after peeling apart wiring harness completely. Cleaned carbs again...Fresh fuel...set powervalves...And it runs great. I did nothing but take it apart and put it back together. It lives again. Thanks everyone for your help and as always awsome suggestions and site!!!

Scratch that. Piece of crap dropped a cylinder in the yard tonight moving it. Voltage regulator or crank out of phase?!! It stopped on two cylinders next to the fire pit....i know what i want to do!!!

does it fire on all 3 cylinder..98 99 is easier to check the ignition since they all fire at same time ...if it work on 2 it should fire up on 3 cylinder unless u got a bad coil or spark plug cap ...make sure those crank seal are good ..reeds are good ...

Noooo, you don't want to do that! (but it would fire on all then...)

Did a plug foul out, these were known for it back when they were new, could be still today. Also, maybe the carbs re-plugged, even though just cleaned. It's been sitting for awhile and unless you cleaned every square mm of the fuel system/lines/pump, it only takes one little goober to plug the carb.

Does it run better with the choke on, or toggling on/off? Does it pick up the dropped cylinder in the midrange, above idling and lower engine speeds?

i know if i clean the iridiums that are in or put a new set in it will run good for awhile until they get dirty again. Once the plugs get dirty it will not pick back up until cleaned or changed. Tried two diffrent stators already and both test good hot and cold. Brand new caps. Doesnt follow a certain cylinder even if i switch the wires around.

if it doesn't follow a certain cylinder I would drain that tank very dry change the filter make sure those carb are clean again and choke work good and fire up back

How do I tell if the reeds are sealing? I looked at them but that's it. Just drained the tank completely last week.
