Just got my new to me 8bu 10 clutch weights today they weight 58 grams right as they sit. I havent installed them yet, just wondering if i should stip out the rivets and start fresh with 4.5 grams in each.

Im new at the clutching game. so do i just drill them out? also does the yamaha dealership usually carry the rivets?

stock 8bu10's weigh in at 46.71 grams empty. So you go 55grams,they must be used weights with some rivets in it already. You must have 4.5 and a 3.6 in it now then..oops..I mis read..you have 58 grams now..wow you will never pull that weight

to get to 55 grams you will need a 3.6 inner and 4.5 outer.Dealer should carry them. What helix you using..let us know how it works when you have done some testing.

I just dont get it .............. Y drill when you can screw????????? when its possible to back it off and not clean your bit............ much less pain for the old girl,,,,U.............

I love to drill and see them shavings flying all over the place..cool.Why do you think I bought a $1000 drill press for..lol.,..don't want a screw coming loose and going thru my clutch..thru my hood and into me...lol.How about just weld extra material on the weights, and if to much..just grind it down..need more..weld some more...etc.

HEHE ,,,, thats the way we did it 30 years ago,,,,,, now there's holes and loctite..........

yes they are used weights the sled currently has a bender 51/43 helix on it now. im gonna try that or shop around for your guys recommended helix if its not performing. Ive also got a 70 twist on it. I have a green spring on order as well. The engine is stock and performs well.

Hey Rustman...cool ive had it for quite a while lol..i need to get me one if im gonna be trying these weights out. mabey i will order one from numb nuts down the road.

sweet, you gonna be home today? I might just stop up. oh btw darrell morehouse can make you a puller in about 20 mins if he had that one of mine to look at.

I can drop it off ken its gonna be a few weeks before i can put them in anyway. Need to order a helix and some weight rivits....of course mcleans dont have them in stock. Should i be looking for A 50/40 As per your set up Tony?

you have to remember..Tony was running on ice, chisels, lowered down, light rider, small lugged track.etc..probably 1 gallon fuel and no 50 lbs of ice and snow in the tunnel. We ride everyday ditch and trails, completely different variables involved...more ski resistance on snow even.
I am going to try my 51/43 again..seemed to pull good last time around.Just have to get the weight right in clutch and get my rpm's right on..It sure was snappy in midrange for sure.

MONSTER, THAT 51-43 IS WORKING FOR YOU BECAUSE YOUR 8BU-10,s ARE NOT LOADED AT THE TIP. HE IS GONNA LOAD HIS. ANYWAYS NO DOUBT MONSTER HAS A POINT, BUT THATS THE RULE FOR EVERY CLUTCH SET-UP. ALL ONE CAN DO IS POST A SET-UP, YOU HAVE TO REFINE IT FOR YOUR TYPE OF RIDING. ORCHIE, I LIKE TO SEE YA WITH A CAM AROUND A 50-40, POSSIBLEY A 50-38 AREA. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Tony we run the 8BU10 weight with tips loaded plus an extra 1.2 grams of washers, best helix finish angle for our sled was a 43 deg angle. This was tested on our track dyno!! Anything shallower lost us power.. Same sled ran 125.8 mph radar speed at the end of last season on a hacksaw track with 144 trail studs. Not saying your set up isn't right for your sled just making the point that not all these sleds will like an identical set up. You can put a person close on set up but there final results will depend on there own ability to fine tune the sled!!!
