setting your TPS properly--video

whammy..can't enjoy thye ride when the sled is not performing like a few years back,I parked it now instead of riding until I can solve it.I actually like wrenching more then riding..keeps me occupied,especially when it is -40's here of late.Besides..with the snowfall of last week..SRX really can't run in that stuff..good anyways..
 
anyways the new updated one should show better numbers and maybe my SRX will open up better from low to mid range without that little holdback I can feel.
 
I'll try and get mine as close as Bob's numbers..that should be good to go and if his SRX acts totally better now..I am hoping the same thing..and then I can ride again.
 
Sorry blue,,,,, got 6000mi on mine....... nothing but keeping sled in shape in the spring.... and still barriers the speedo.............(113 gps with 2800mi on belt) Id ask for my money back,,,,,800-962-7926(customer relation) for yame---- good luck///////////......
 
Your luck will run out soon..always does.Maybe I am to hard on my sleds..I always drive them pinned..maybe that's why.Driving slow sucks..trails would suck also.Love making my own tracks and not follow the next guy..and of course always at wot..Hey my 600 with over 13,000 km's always ran good..always pinned again....I'll solve the issue on SRX or else the gun comes out..lol..not kidding either...if I lose my temper big time again,won't take much...
 
New TPS is installed.Following the manual I got 5.05 volts.Times that by .136 gives me voltage B which is .686 v.So I set the idle right..warmed up motor for a while and got idle where I want it and then adjusted TPS at idle to .68 v. At wide open throttle I get 3.11 volts.With the old one I couldn't set the idle volts lower then .79v...so something is a little different.This TPS is the updated part also ending in 02.I will take her out tomorrow and try again and see if there is a difference in performance.We 'll see if I blew $100 or not... :o|
 
OK guys I'm back from my trip...I have been reading your posts and it sounds like you have the wiring sorted out for testing and have your idle voltage set properly.
I am very interested to hear how it runs with the new TPS.

yeah..I really hope something changes here..but don't know yet.The weather is starting to get nasty again,temps are dropping and blowing snow..got to at least test a little today.With all the warm weather we had the past few days..trails are now bumpy and rough..a lot of slush on the River yesturday also..SRX wouldn't of liked it.Now that it is a little colder,I can go for a run but won't be any long stretches to try out yet.... :o| ..
 
well I have to hand it to BOB..he knows his stuff.Changed TPS and my SRX is totally back again.Arm stretching all the way..that feeling is back..wow!!!Amazing low and midrange pull.At launch ski's are up 1.5 to 2 feet with good traction and hang on..Only using stock clutching and 47 helix green at 60..Over reving a bit to 8700 ..but pulls to 100 quick.Got to 120 today on crappy conditions on the River and she was screaming and no DCS issues at all at wot.

Now the 8bu10 setup is going on next..since my motor is back from the dead.Cannot believe the difference a little $100 TPS can do to a motor.I think I want may HC's back from needasrx..Andy..where are you..??

You guys with SRX or Viper issues better start checking your TPS's out and we will make Bob the TPS Guru Tech for TY..good work Bob...keep it up.. ;)!

Shouldn't it be 4 volts at WOT, not 3.11? What does the manual call for (at idle and/or WOT)?
 
Polaris does it with 4 volts at wot.Yamaha does it with the calculation you have to do and works out to .68 v usually at idle..Yamaha doesn't do it at wot.Get the .68 right and it will be good.WOT for me was 3.11.If I could push throttle any more I would get 4 volts..but the damn handlebar is in the way.But since these TPS's are updated versions,I wouldn't trust the older ones at all now when testing..I just bought a new one and makes this SRX stand up now..wooohooo!!!

This is what the manual says. I don't get it as it doesn't specify what it should be at.

2.Adjust:
· TPS position
Adjustment steps:
· Disconnect the TPS coupler.
· Connect the test coupler to the TPS.
· Connect three dry cells (1.5 V ´ 3 pcs.) in series
to the test coupler.
Dry cells (–) ® 1
Dry cells (+) ® 2
· Connect the digital multimeter to the test coupler.
Digital multimeter (–) lead ® 1
Digital multimeter (+) lead ® 2
· Measure the voltage A.
NOTE:
When measuring the voltage A be sure that the
test coupler is connected to the TPS.
· Calculate th voltage B.
Voltage B = Voltage A ´ (0.136)
· Loosen the TPS bolts 4.
· Connect the digital multimeter to the test coupler.
Digital multimeter (–) lead ® 1
Digital multimeter (+) lead ® 3
· Adjust the TPS position to obtain the specified
voltage B.
· Tighten the TPS bolts 4.
· Disconnect the test coupler and connect the
TPS coupler.

It does not specify the setting voltage because it will vary according to the power source voltage you are using for the test.
The TPS is really just a reostat not unlike like the ones on a light dimmer switch in your house.
The critical setting is a set percentage of the power source[voltage A] you are using so it will vary depending on what voltage you use.

example 1:
-if your power source is 3 AA batteries the voltage A will be approx 4.8 volts
4.8 volts X .136 = .653 [that will be voltage B]
therefore you would adjust the TPS position at idle position until the voltage B reading was .653

Example 2:
-if your power source [voltage A] was 5 volts[this is what my sled supplies to the TPS]
5 volts X .136 = .68 [that will be voltage B]
therefore you would adjust the TPS until voltage B is .68 in the idle position

Is there a way to test without the tester? What if you take an ohm metre across the power and ground on the sensor? What does your old sensor read and what does your new sensor read? I was thinking that as you turn the sensor the resistance should change and basically you put the tps in and ohm it and set it to what you have yours at which is right on because of the tester thing you made to read it in volts. You tested in volts and im wondering if you can test in ohms with just a multimeter. Or is there no way possible to get an accurate reading without building that tester doo dad?
 
I don't know.I just followed what the Yamaha manual said to do..that must be the only way to test because it needs the voltage,otherwise we wouldn't be wasting our time making testers up..
 
Blue, my dads 02 srx lately throws the odd dtc flash. I thought it was fuel but seams to do it no matter whose fuel goes in it. Think it could be an issue? What were you using to do the test just a multimeter like a fluke?
 
did you guys not read the first couple of threads on here.It all all explained pretty well and thread 23 is where I made my tester.Yes you ohm with mulitimeter to check resistence to see if tps is in the right range..but you need to use a tester to calibrate it now either 3 batteries in series or a 5 volt regulator .Basically check the SRX manual ..it explains it.I think Bob and I had already stated the procedure many times already..
