problems with Boss seat

I recently bought a new Boss seat for a 02 MM 700. It doesn't fit very well up against the tank. It's about an inch back from being where it is suppose to be. I called Boss and he tried to tell me there must be a difference in my tank from his tank. He stuck with the same story after I told him I tried it on my other 00 MM 700. He said that I should cut the foam out to make it fit. I just have this feeling that a $400 seat should fit like a glove and you shouldn't have to trim to fit. Has anyone else had problems like this.
 
I never called just looked at others on here and read what others have said and accepted it. I was not going to start cutting the foam to make it fit after spending 400.00 dollars on it.
 
Boss seats have a nice height, but other than that, their quality is seriously lacking and they couldn't care less. I'd do anything I could next time to find a different route to gain seat height, whether it be trying to make a rev or polaris seat fit or something else, but I can't stand supporting a company that just takes your money without trying to offer you a decent product. They know their seats don't fit, and they won't even adjust the CAD on their cnc machine or anything to try to rectify the situation, they have no competition and they seriously don't care.
 
my seat guy will make u a full custom tall seat for the same price and you will love the quality. pm me for details sell your seat and them have one made. just need a stock seat then go from there.
 
Good to know, I really like the way your seat turned out. If I end out getting the viper that I'm chasing after, I'll definitely look into that route.
 
i started the same thread 3 months ago, and posted pics. search "poor fitting boss seat" you should find it.
 
Thanks for the input. I thought I was the only one who felt like Boss just doesn't care about there customers. However, if you have info on another style of seat. I would love to see it. Could you post or send pics?
 
Sorry about beating this problem up some more. I read in lengthhhhhhhhhhhh the other complaints about the fit up. I trimmed mine and was able to make it fit well. Not great. I will always remember this and there customer service.
 
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the 'new' mass production seats. I also agree they lack a little in fit and finish. But mine is on there now and not coming off anytime soon.
 
yes, they are a different seat now, mass produced and no longer custom, and they also no longer fit without modification. luckily for them they've built a good reputation because of their old seats, but it's going down hill fast in the last 2 years.
 
Fix for the poor fitting issues

Here was my fix for the seat, took about an hour and I know its the principal of the matter but this seat rides great!! "After reading this thread and realizing that this is happening to everyone I took some steps to eliminate all gaps on my BOSS seat and make it fit like it should have from the factory. To eliminate the gap under the gas tank from the filler down the concave portion of the gas tank I unzipped the fabric and added camper weather stripping foam tape. It is 1.5" wide and 1/4" thick and is made of vinyl. From the angular portion of the seat where it meets the filler down the outside edge I added 4 strips of the tape stacked up, the first 2 pieces were approx 7 inches long and the next piece was 5 and the final piece was 4 inches. These strips look like and upside down pyramid and are an inch away from the outside edge angling down again from the point where the filler hoop connects. I also cut a 1.25" x 1.25" square out of the foam portion of the seat that would sit on the flanged section of the gas tank and against the lower angle of the gas tank. Obviously this could void your warranty and remove the cover before doing this but i figured that if I ever need repairs to seat I am not sending it back to them as it would cost 80 bucks to ship it round trip and who knows how long it would take to get back. Mine fits great with no gaps. I will post pics soon to show how I did it."

I called back to Boss and suggested that they look online to see that there seats aren't fitting. The guy on the phone said again that he hadn't heard of any problems with fitting. However, he didn't disagree that the complaints were probably out there. I hope buyers that have problems with the seats call them. Maybe they will fix the problem so more don't have to have this problem. After getting my seat to fit, I am pleased with the way it rides. We as customers shouldn't have to make them fit. It looks as though the older seats fit great. What happened?

Gotta agree with Super Sled. I purchased my Boss seat in Sept. of 2007 from Go Big Parts and the fit is great! Still as firm as the day I got it and in excellent shape. I think Boss makes a great seat. Must have gotten one of the hand made ones from the olden days. I didn't have to modify it an any way either.

Your sleds look great. I hope that I have the durability that you have described. Would've been nice to have the fit up also.
 
In Europe we call it "american fitting". ;-) *Jokingly*

I recently bought a BOSS seat for my MM700. The seat is wonderful to ride but the fitting to the tank is not! good.

Yes, yours is one of the hand made ones. The only mass produced ones are the new ones that have all the zipper bags prolapsing out of the back of the seat. Your sled looks really nice btw.

To the people who do want to make them fit, used a rotor with a 1/2" cutting bit set 5/8" deep I believe, where it meets the tank, then I finished out the concave part with a hand saw. It fit like factory after that.
