I wonder what has changed over the years. In the 70's we always had tons of snow. There was a blizzard atleast once a month. Its was horrible. Couldn't even go to school. Our backyard had atleast 5-6 feet of snow to make forts and tunnel systems. That same backyard now generally gets only a foot or two. Look back to '84. We had a three day blizzard. Our driveway had atleast 5 feet of snow as did most of the roads in town. It took two days for us to get around. Winnipeg streets had walls of snow beside them. All that snow and no flooding. The blizzard of '64. My Dad has pictures of that one . WOW. Our main street had over 10 feet of snow. It took the town snowplow three days to open one lane of traffic. My Dad and his brothers walked out of their second story bedroom window and had to dig out the front door so his parents could get out of the house. No flood either that spring. Now when we get a snowfall year that gets does not even come close to the 60 or 70's amount they call "flood". Yes we had lots of rain in the late part of the year but really, we don't have as much snow as we used to in the good old days.
Makes you wonder what we have been doing to screw things up

to much saturation in the last few years don't help...Rivers and Lakes will remain higher then usual come Spring time and also the flow of water from the US south of us..Look at Devils Lake..it is so huge now compared to what it should be...More retention of water and evaporation not as fast...things keep adding up..water can only flow to a certain point and then it starts to back up on us..this year it is backing up everywhere. The big storm was in 66,,not 64..I remember that one sort of.My dad had to shovel by hand a tunnel thru where driveway was to get vehicles out...still can't invision that somehow..

Do you remember the flood of 1950 too??
The water came up to the RR tracks in Niverville. That was the accidental dike for the town.

Ya. Saw that and fixed it. Not old enuf to remember the 1950 flood or the 1966 blizzard. I do remember sandbagging somewhere between '74 and '77.

went along the diversion today toward 59 hwy, there is a spot of open water there and it is trickling along the diversion..where the heck is that coming from..right after the RR bridge.Thru a large rock into it..it just sunk down..good thing I didn't go thru it..I would of sunk. Can't figure out that section has moving water and not frozen..strange.

There is always open water along the diversion. The one spot that I always see is at the 59 hwy on the east side of the bridge.

that's the one..why would it not be frozzen.Today it was like a small pond and the water isn't clear.Could it be something to do with vehicles over the bridge or someone dumped something down there.Today you can actually see water moving east from that spot..like a tap was turned on and it was colder today and no Sun out...weird.Wouldn't have made it thru that puddle. It is right after the bridge east side..correct..some slush marks west of it also as I see some sleds have left big track marks in the slush and now froze. The whole diversion is now blown in,it was beautiful a few months back..totally flat..look at the video we raced back and forth from.

There is a small rock damn there. Thats the reason you need to cross the old 59 hwy instead of going down the diversion. Been like that forever.
The river was in good shape today. Got 122 on the dream meter with the wind. May be the last runs on there. Next week its forecasted to be well above freezing

I find everything is rough now, sled bouncing around alot.I can only hit 140 K's on my 600 this year..as fast as she will go..used to go faster years back.Probably because I used a 700 head gasket instead of a 600 gasket..I lost power, compression will be down also.I used to run single layer gasket and motor ran well..All in all it cost me the most for gas and oil ever this year and I find that a little to much for my liking.I am well over $1600 this around, last year about $800..can't keep doing this year after year especially when fuel is high in price.I am not working now and bank account is dropping fast..spending from now on is at minimal.Probably will park the SRX for a couple of years..won't have cash to getting it back to snuff, maybe will part it out yet..not sure at this time and just keep my 600 running a few more years and probably call it quits on sledding.I have to pay my house bills firstly and try to survive on limited $$$...next few years are going to be tough...may even have to sell my house and move to smaller property..lot of things I am thinking about now..the future for us here.
