I imagine it will be soon enough.We are estimated to have the crest here around after Easter..but I am sure you'll have to check the roadways south of here yourself.I am sure Grand Forks,Emmerson will be impassable soon also.Get on a ND web site and check the water conditions.Even if they shut down the Hwey at Morris,Manitoba..you won't be going anywhere and they are starting to work on dike closures in all the smaller towns now.You may not be making a trip out this way since water levels will be rising steadily by next week and on..
 
what was that guy thinking anyways..a current swept the truck some 60 feet down the way,about 15 feet deep.We had a guy back in 2009 flood that tried going thru #247 and Hwy 75..it was covered with water.Now he decided to go for it..even with the signs up saying road flooded,well he started to wander off the roads and slowly into the ditch and stopped.He climbed to the back of his truck bed and called 911.I was going to work and slowed down to watch everything.The ambulance,firetrucks,emergency resue guys were all there and took a boat to go get the guy.I wander if he was charged for this?? His truck stayed there for the duration of the flood..water was thru his cab..I imagine his auto insurance would be void also because he rode in an area that was flooding.Some people are just plain crazy..and to lose your life over it is totally insane
 
I-29 from Hillsboro, ND to Grand Forks, ND is closed due to flooding, lots of it going on especailly down in that area.
 
I have been monitoring the situation out there and you guys are on our news..because what you are getting ,we will be getting soon also...heard the waters are doing some strange things this time..things that haven't been seen before North of Fargo.The Cheyenne River is spilling into the RED River.and it had not yet crested..they say maybe in another 2 weeks..Man this is one late flood.We have things happening here that hasn't been seen before also..Many Rivers coming into the Red River basically at the same time..yikes!!!I spent 12 hours today putting up my Flood Wall and still have another 8 hours of work on it..
 
Grand Forks predicted to hit around 53 feet around April 14 ,then it comes this way...

this is just the beginning here.There is our rural Church that I tore the floors up 2 years ago to the water just touching the floor back in 2009.Looks like this time the Church will be lost to the Flood,and they will not allow us to rebuild again.

that would be to many sandbags.In 97 the water was above the floor by about 5 feet.All the Church Bench's were floating around inside the Church.You would have to sandbag like 8 feet high..way to much work.They wanted to sell the Church and move it to another Town,but they should of done that last Fall..to late now.After water hits it,I guess they will tear it down or burn it down...All the hard work I did in 2009.ripping all the sub-floor and carpet out and replacing subfloor..all for not I guess.At least I got paid for my work.. :o|

the country road is now covered in 2 areas.Here are a couple pics of a part of the River that I sled on.It is about 3 times its width and near road level now.In a week or so she will be way above the road.It is a slow flood this year..but slowly coming.

this year it is costing the Government a ton of money because instead of just being a Flood from the South..there are floods happening everywhere like never before.The water is slowly creeping from the low spots way back of my place and working its way into my back yard already.Still have till May 1 to 4 for full crest.We are used to such floods ,and Government is ahead of the game with all the dikes and barriers and tube dikes they are distributing around.Here is some info on them Hesco Barriers.They used these barriers this time down a ways from me to close off a dike that save an area of houses near the Flood Gates.Usually in the past they had to haul in mud and construct a dike..then remove later ..messy.With these Hesco barriers..they pull a pin..lift the Barrier up and gone.All is left is sand to be scooped back up.

we are used to it and doesn't happen every year.1997 the the biggest flood ever...next 2009 was second biggest..but didn't effect me to much.This one will be in between those two years.We are in a wet cycle and with heavy rain falls and water table being higher..makes it harder to get rid of the water and a lot of it comes the the US..Fargo and Grand Forks.The Red River is one long River.BUT we here are pretty well set up for it now..not to many people losing property anymore.at least not like in 1997.There are about 1000 people evacuated now..in 1997 there was about 30,000 people.So we have learned to deal with the water more efficiently now and are well prepared for a 700 year Flood...hopefully that never comes.All the old existing homes were the ones that really got hit in 1997.Us guys with the newer homes were told to build higher.The basement for my house was never dug in the ground.We started at ground level and poured 9 foot high basement foundation and from there the house was built.Makes a huge difference when the neighbours just a few doors down from me are 8 to 9 feet lower then me to begin with.Every time we get as major flood,we are learning new things and how to prepare for it better.Preparation is key and seems to be working great now.The water will still come..but most of us are well prepared for the worst that mother nature can throw at us.I rather be here then in Earthquake or Tornado areas.Can't believe what just happened in St.Louis..how do you prepare for that now???
 
now they have forcasted around a foot less now for a crest.still slightly higher then 2009..no biggie.There was alot of scare tactics going on since January.I think that they told bigger forcasts for this flood just to make sure everyone is doing their part..and..of course..it is election year this year..so the Government doesn't want anything really going bad during this flood and are spending the bucks to make sure nothing does go bad on their watch.BUT they have created a lot of anxiety to say the least and have been slammed for that...politics is such a farce...Our area seems to be ok this time I think,while other areas were hit hard like never before and never expected to be....there are something like 700 rural roads washed out and closed and the farming community ain't to happy about that because they won't be able to get around with their farm equippment to seed this Spring's Crop.It will be a late start and a lot of fields will have to dry off and the Government will have to hussle to fix them roads quick..boy the manpower and equipment for this will coat a pretty penny and not all will be satisfied at the same time.
