Hi, I have both an sxr700(2001) and a 98 srx 700. I just picked up the sxr and decided to go for a decent little day trip, 80 miles. Sxr just made it, and I mean just made it on one tank. The srx on the other hand still has 3 gallons in it or so. Is this typical of the redhead triples or should I be looking at something. Before I took off I went thru the carbs on the sxr and changed the mains to 142.5's straight across. I set floats to spec, cleaned those little screens, cleaned the entire carb, jets and such included, new plugs(gapped to spec), new belt. Sled was boggy most of the day, but temps were warm. So out of this I come up two questions. Should I lower the needles? Are SXR's just harder on gas than the SRX'es? Great sled though, I love the way it handles tha trails. I guess one more question. If I peel the headgasket will i need to rejet to compensate? The heck with it, while I'm at it. Should I pipe this baby and if I do what pipes would be the best, noise isnt an issue unless they are really obnoxious.
