Srx or viper

i am in the market for a new sled, i was debating between a srx and a viper, i no the viper has problems but the srx has bad suspension and the viper in my opinion look better, which one should i get?
 
1. What are your riding conditions/intentions. IE....lake, railroad bed, ditches, groomed or not, etc,etc.
2. What (exact) sleds have you been eyeballing and the $.
3. Can you wrench? Or do you want to ?
 
not aware of the problem's you are thinking of but viper's are bullet proof, so is the srx but a viper is a better sled if you're just trail riding, better suspension and better mpg's IMO

aaaaahhhh, viper gets better mpg than srx......i don't think so.
 
I've gotten up to 15-16 mpg on my srx.. Not to mention handles better, and 145 horse compared to 120ho viper. Srx looks meaner. Selling mine if your interested, clutched by a yamaha performance engineer. Haven't been beat by a stock sled yet. Can always install another skid for better ride, but srx and viper both have crap suspensions either way. Install an edge or something, but i was in love with the handling.
 
i ride mostly trail and some ditch, i have to spend up to $2500, and have been looking at sxr, vipers, and srx, and i can wrench but i want a sled to just gas up and goi

Sxr has 120 horse like a viper too, they are triple with single pipe. Srx has triple pipes. Mine is gas and go
 
Best gas and go sled would be the SXr. No power valves to worry about cleaning. little less hp than a viper, but should be able to pick one up cheaper than a viper. The Viper is still one of the best looking sleds though.
 
Well I ride a 2000 srx 700 with pioneer long travel kit and I LOVE it! Bought a 2000 sxr 700 for the girlfreind to ride, nice sled...Just doesnt have the giddy up and go as the srx. You can tweek the sxr for a lil more speed but the more you tweek the more you have to wrench!
 
im bender piped an other mods an other then maintence this things an animal an still the most dependable machine ive owned other then gas milage bout 8 mpg an i have an 01 sxr my profile says 2000 i jus cant fix it

Performance engineer from yamaha said you should never have to clean your powervalves. They are self cleaning.... Learned that few weeks ago. What would he know, he's just an engineer

I swear to god. He is a good friend of mine and we were bullshitting about srx's. Learned alot from him, and he honesty said that. That's why they cycle when they start, otherwise could have went pressure operated like poo or Doo and have to clean.

The only thing self cleaning about powervalves is the guy cleaning them. I know they claimed that when they relaesed the powervalve engine but nothing could be farther from the truth. They need to be cleaned at least once a season depending on riding style and miles. I clean mine about every 500 and they need it. I would have to bet your buddy never pulled a set of valves if he is still making that claim. Chris
 
I would like to think he knows a thing or two about them, he is currently the longest tenured engineer for them and worked with the guy who designed the srx motor.

That's all fine and good and I'm sure that in a perfect world they require no maintenance, but the reality is that if you don't keep them clean then the cable pulls out of the end of the valve. Same as if you don't adjust them correctly. Then you either need to buy new valves, have them fixed, or ???? The frequency that they need cleaning depends on how the sled is rode, jetting, oil type used, Oil pump adjustment, etc...

So if the power valves didn't open and close each time you started the motor, you would have to clean them? I do not understand this.
