Sold Apex sold ! should i buy a 2002 srx or 2004 viper ?

Sold the 2007 Apex Gt i was going for something newer but finances are not what they use to be so i still want to stay in the sport and ride less.
Looking at a 2004 viper with 1500 miles electric start and reverse or a 2002 srx with close to 4000 miles.
I had a 2002 viper did like it but always like my friends 98 srx better .
Im not sure what to do always wanted a last edition srx but the 2004 black viper seems like a better deal with less miles and has reverse.
 
Im obviously partial to the vipers. Great all around sled. Those black 04 viper er's are sharp. But its hard to beat the out of the box power of the SRX. A sled with 1500 miles has a lot of trouble free life left if maintained. I vote for the viper. Chris
 
Thats what im Thinking ! Less miles and reverse and electric start, better rear, better cooling ? Rear rad on 2004 vipers, better headlight, less power but still a nice sound.
Probaly the viper for me. ????

X2 when i was looking at a sled like five years ago i wanted a srx but ended up getting a viper because they look better and have a longer suspension in them. Plus if you add pipes and clutch it, it wakes the viper right up. ;)!
 
For me the SRX would be my choice but only because I haven't owned a Viper so my opinion my be very one sided.You could add a better skid to the SRX plus a set of brackets to the front to raise it and you'd basically have a more powerful Viper.As far as reverse that can be added too so you more or less have to weigh the price of adding the other stuff to the SRX vs the Viper where it already has it although less power which if you don't mind that part then it seems the choice is pretty easy.I have ridden Vipers and they are very nice riding sleds as a matter of fact I almost pre ordered a Viper S in 04,the only thing that stopped me was money,as usual,and to this day I wish I had followed through and got the sled with reverse not particularly e-start.
 
I was going to buy a Viper originally..but after reading about the SRX power and they look damn hot also..my mind was made up..SRX all the way.

Gotta say the Viper would still be the best all around sled. You don't have to add all of things you want to give you the electric start, reverse, better suspension, better looks... The Viper has it covered. SRX has the edge with power, but the Viper isn't far behind. Vipers still beat up on much newer 600cc-800cc sleds.
 
Just the fact that a lot of Vipers have gone down this season would make me think twice,a lot of motors were blown...don't hear that about the SRX's.The SRX's are bullet proof,but something about the Vipers doesn't sound right there..that alone would make me stay away from them. :dunno:
 
My blue ER has over 13,000mi on the original crank. Set the needles per mrviper and toss in an opticool if you're that worried. Jmho, don't put crap gas in it. You gotta pay to play. Ill try to get some pics up of my vipers. If ya keep on top of things without horse hocking repairs, you'll have many years of enjoyment.

I'd opt for the SRX. I've gone down both paths when it comes to add ons and IMO upping the sled's suspension is easier and cheaper in the long run than squeezing more power with add ons.

I personally think the SRX is, while a bit dated, better looking with it's pipe bulged hood.

I would rely more on signs of proper storage/maintenance than mileage when it comes to the life left of a used sled. A properly stored sled with 4K miles will be more trouble free than a poorly maintained/stored sled with 1K miles. Ask about how the sled was stored/maintained and ask for receipts.

Also, if the SRX owner isn't up on known issues you could pick apart the skid when talking turkey and get the price down ("dude, look at the crack in this here front suspension arm. and look at the slop in the shock bushing. what are you trying to do, kill me"?). Aside from compression and outward appearance of the CVT, it'd be harder to pick apart the powertrain.

While I think both have DCS, you'll still want to upgrade the cooling system or change needle settings on the Viper. The SRX will provide much better fuel economy right out of the box. Start tinkering with the Viper and F.E. will drop like a stone... from what I've read.
 
Vipers are awsome looking but theres no replacement for the seat of the pants feel the srx is going to give you. Add tripple pipes to the viper and all the fuel economy that there know for is long gone.

You nailed it right there Andy!! I'm already back to searching for another SRX. I have owned 2 Vipers. Ya, they sure look sharp and run smooth, but in the end they both were sold to get another SRX. There's nothing like the power of the SRX. A Viper with a transplanted SRX motor in it would be the perfect.

Once you've owned and sold an SRX, it's really hard to never go back. I'm looking for my 4th in 12 years.
