2002 V-Max 600ER Track Replacement
Hi guys. I just acquired a 2002 V-Max 600ER in what seems to be pretty good shape. However, the track was pretty beat up.
I got a new Camoplast Ice Ripper XT (1.25) for it and don't know where to begin. I have read on here and searched, but have yet to find a good step by step with photos. I have the manual (PDF) version but find it a little hard to follow.
I am not afraid to dive into this and will be doing so either way. I was hoping to find a good write up here on it that would save me time and hassles. This is why I am posting.
Anybody have any ideas on where to find a good write up on this sled or one with the same system?
Either that, or somebody that knows these babies inside and out that lives near Plattsburgh, NY to give me a hand or something.
Thanks

Thanks, This will help a lot. But in the very first step it says "remove skid frame (Suspension) See tech page for Installation of Suspension. "
I can't seem to find this "Installation of Suspension" article for this sled. Do you have the link to this as well?

Alright. I have been following the guides and got to the Speedo key. But I didn't disconnect the speedo cable, instead I took the 3 nuts off and removed the whole housing and cable. This has exposed the square speedo key. I have shown this in one of the photos below.
Question: How exactly do I remove this speedo key? I do not want to damage it...so I figured I would ask first.
PS...was much easier getting the suspension out by just cutting the track.

Looks like I am going to have to use some needle nosed vice grips to get that baby out. Should it be that hard to pull out? Do I have to unhook it from the other side or something?
Or just get on there with those needle nosed vice grips and pry....and pray?

It's probably just little rusty. Spray some PB Blaster or whatever flavor derustifier you prefer on there and pull it out with the Vise Grip.

Yeah. I PB'd it. Gonna let it soak in and try pulling it tomorrow morning. Thanks.

It came out just now. I put the needle nosed vice grips on it, got a pry bar down in there and pop when the weasel! Springy little booger. But complete nonetheless.
So now I am on the chain case side. Just removed the exhaust can. I can't seem to see the drain bolt. Anybody got an actual pic of where it actually is? Let me guess......probably gotta remove the battery

Drain is on the chain case on the inside of the tunnel, on the back side of the chain case on the bottom.

I thought that was it. Battery is coming out to gain access.

OK...finally found the time to get back on it yesterday. Should be finishing it up today. The track is on and the chain case is back together. Was no biggie really. Thanks again for the help so far guys.
All that is left to do is put some chain case oil back in it and re-install the suspension.
Before I reinstall the suspension, I was wondering if there was a good guide for the suspension on this sled. The tunnel looks real good but I can see where it has bottomed out a couple times.
The previous owner rode it once and said the suspension was real so. I am 275 pounds and he's about 190. So I figure that some changes are needed here. My track is the 1.25" Ice Ripper XT and has the little built in mini studs on it. I don't want it tearing up my tunnel. So yes...I guess some adjustment is needed here.
The shocks are adjustable with a pair of channel locks. I am not sure which way to go on the front and rear shocks. I want the track to ride as far away from the tunnel as possible and not bottom out if I ride it hard or bring the 116 pound wife on easy rides. It seems the bars on the rear sides are adjustable (maybe longer or shorter bushings)
I do know that I can buy some of the old take offs (shocks) from the Vipers when they upgraded them. Yamaha offered a deal to those guys because everybody was complaining about the shocks being too stiff. The dealer has one of the old (the stiff ones) sets left...he wants $200 for the set of all Viper 4 shocks. Money is really tight right now and that's kind of out of the question at the moment.
Anyways...with my given situation of being a heavy guy with a soft suspension...what are my options or best setup with what I got and how would I do it? I don't want to tear this tunnel up.

You have to really sit on the sled and check the gaps on the transfer rods.
